King County’s Finance and Business Operations Division, Procurement & Payables section, is seeking an Accounts Payable Accountant!
This position is involved in many areas of accounts payable, including overseeing the AP Special Payment Team, agency interfaces, and special district and construction payment processes. This role will advise staff on the accounting treatment of sales/use tax and other transactions and manage various special projects.

Scope of Job Duties: To be considered for this opportunity, you must at a minimum, demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability to:
Monitor the daily workflow for the AP Special Payment Team to ensure quality work and time standards are being met; reconcile and monitor General Ledger accounts- Act as Accounts Payable public disclosure coordinator.
- Respond to requests and coordinate the retrieval of information and address questions or problems
- Research analyze and resolve sales tax issues, fraudulent or counterfeit warrants/checks, manual payment voucher processing; process lien and levy requests for supplier accounts; reconcile and monitor requests to ensure processing occurs accurately and as scheduled
- Coordinate and responsible for Content Manager, electronic filing system and archiving records coordination
- Responsible for unclaimed property due diligence & reporting
- Document and assess current processes and implement improvements to controls processes (LEAN)
- Coordinate and assist with audit research efforts and invoice copy requests
- Manage special projects
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated wide range of progressive Accounts Payable experience in all areas from receipt to payment, preferably in a government setting
- Experience using an automated financial management system, preferably Oracle.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Products with a minimum of intermediate skill using Excel.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, writing and customer service skills
- Intermediate level of technology proficiency using MS Office Productivity tools in your daily work
- Ability to manage your time and adapt to changing priorities, work on multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, meet quick deadlines, and produce timely and quality work products
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
We would love it if you have:
- Experience with project management
- Experience with LEAN processes and principles
- Experience with SharePoint, MS Teams and other collaborative online tools
Other Position Information:
This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore overtime-eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday, comprising a 40-hour workweek; normally 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position
The work associated with this position will be hybrid with time in office twice a month.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop. When working remotely employees must maintain a workspace with an internet connection (access may be supplemented in some situations) where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. Please note that when an employee conducts work that is likely to bring them in contact with another individual, safety precautions are required, including the wearing of masks in some situations. King County is doing its part to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and remains committed to reducing our carbon footprint.
