Activity Camp- [Nature Camp] -Instructor Job Posting
The Associated Recreation Council (ARC), in partnership with Seattle Parks & Recreation, is hiring an Activity Camp [Nature Camp] Instructor to deliver camps at Montlake Community Center. The [Nature Camp] Instructor will be responsible for programming and delivering a [camp topic] class to children aged 5-12 years. The instructor will be responsible for creating lessons and teaching the fundamentals of [camp topic]. The instructor must have the ability to engage with a diverse group of children and manage a classroom of students. A passion for teaching and the outdoors are a must!
Pay Range: $22.00- $26.00 hourly DOE/non-exempt; seasonal summer position only
Schedule
Monday – Friday up to 35-40 hours per week. Day will be split between a morning and afternoon camp. Hours not guaranteed on a weekly basis.- Hiring by Date: June 15, 2023
- Training dates: July 6-7, 2023
- Program dates: July 10th - Aug 4th, 2023
Responsibilities
Programming:
- Develop and deliver developmentally appropriate activity camp lesson plans/activities in the subject area of nature and the outdoors for ages 5-12
- Instructors are expected to program their camps with support from the Activity Camp Administrator
- Use critical thinking to problem-solve
- Generate supply lists for camp; there will be some class supply funds available
- Maintain camp appropriate professional appearance
- Daily set-up, take down and cleaning of space
- Reports to Associated Recreation Council Activity Camp Administrator
Relationship Building:
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants
- Collaborate with Activity Camp Administrator and other on-site staff to ensure safety of all participants
- Collaborate with Activity Camp Supervisor to manage behavioral concerns of all participants
- Communicate with parents, coworkers and Seattle Parks and Recreation partners in a professional and courteous manner
- Attend all required meetings and trainings
Care and Safety:
Follow safety protocols and ensure participant compliance- Complete required accident/incident forms
Minimum Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older- Prior youth programming experience required
- Prior outdoor interpretation, adventure, hiking, water sports, camping or other recreation/experience required
- If hired, you will have approximately 3 hours of Human Resources new hire onboarding/training and 10 hours of on-site on-boarding/training which will include behavior management, programming, parent communication, reporting procedures, etc.
- If hired, must successfully complete/pass a background check
- If hired, must provide proof of eligibility to work in the US and valid government issued ID and sign up for direct deposit with either checking or savings account
Additional Preferred Requirements
Preference given to instructors available for all or most of the summer, however, if you can only work for some of the summer weeks, you are still encouraged to apply- Preference given to candidates who have led comparable programs for youth
