Job Title: Adjunct Instructor
Reporting Structure: Executive Director of Student Success and Retention Services
Division: Enrollment Management and Student Experience
Job Summary: The Office of Student Success and Retention Services is responsible for overseeing the Freshman and Sophomore Seminar courses that are part of the General Education requirements for students at Bethune-Cookman University. Adjunct instructors are expected to teach weekly face-to-face or synchronous online (Zoom) sections of one or more of the following courses: Freshman Seminar I, Freshman Seminar II, and Sophomore Seminar. He or she will also be expected to provide feedback on student work in a timely manner, maintain the grade book in the Canvas course, and keep accurate attendance records. The successful candidate will also promote successful student learning in keeping with the learning-centered values and goals of the school.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Teaches classes as assigned.
  • Follows the provided course structure and content to maintain uniformity across multiple class sections.
  • Documents students’ attendance and participation.
  • Documents students’ academic progress by grading assignments, projects, quizzes, and/or examinations within 7 days of submission.
  • Submits course grades to the B-CU Registrar by the assigned date.
  • Is accessible to students outside the classroom and responds to student email and/or phone inquiries within 48 hours.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to utilize technology to enhance student learning.
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrate general understanding of students’ affective domain and knowledge of resources to assist students’ needs.
Education and Experience:
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience teaching face-to-face or online classes.
Preferred Skills, Experience, and Education:
  • College-level teaching experience preferred.
  • Experience with Canvas preferred.
