PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Advancement Operations Data Analyst Supports the operation of the External Relations Institutional Advancement (ERIA) department through their expertise in data structures, database maintenance, data warehousing, data importing and extraction, and reporting. The Data Analyst provides support in the utilization of the ERIA CRM, currently Blackbaud NXT, and other associated products. The incumbent will provide essential data clean-up, mapping, testing and validating to ensure accurate reporting and system integrations as well as accurate data extraction for mailing lists, solicitations, and communications. The ERIA Operations Data Analyst reports to the Executive Director of Advancement Operations & Analytics.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with ERIA Staff to build and run queries and reports that meet business need and fulfill strategic initiatives.
  • Utilize practical experience to formulate, interpret and provide solutions to enhance query capabilities, reporting dashboards, performance metrics, and assist in the planning, strategy, and timing of fundraising activities.
  • Identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions or approaches to problems and discuss with ERIA team to arrive at appropriate technical solutions.
  • Ensure data and system integrity. Perform data clean up and mapping processes and aid in the implementation and integrations of current and future fundraising tools.
  • Responsible for promoting appropriate data use through planning, and protocol development.
  • Identify and implement techniques which will improve productivity for the user community.
  • Plan and lead appropriate training on technology and resources.
  • Respond to data requests in a timely manner, collaborate with requestor to ensure accurate fulfillment of the request in support of ERIA operations and produce deliverables according to schedule.
  • Collaborate with ERIA division staff and key campus stakeholders to determine functional business requirements and recommend technical solutions.
  • As directed by the Executive Director of Advancement Operations, create and maintain advancement data and analytics policy and procedures to maintain data quality; conduct annual audit of the procedures to ensure relevance and accuracy.
  • Anticipate and communicate changes in technology and processes to the ERIA team and campus stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Organize and lead functional and technical training sessions as part of new ERIA employee onboarding to familiarize new staff with database features; offer guidance as needed.
  • Manage security settings for staff access to ERIA database and fundraising tools.
  • Partner with institutional departments that share similar data needs or house data used by ERIA. Develop working relationships with Enrollment, Registrar, Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, Business Affairs, and Student Affairs.
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively and work multi-functionally with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • General understanding of donor-centric fundraising principles and practices and able to translate that knowledge into data and reporting process and analysis.
  • Knowledge of current trends in database management, reporting and analytics best practices, using CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education), AASP (Association of Advancement Services Professionals), APRA (Prospect Research), and AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) professional association guidelines.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and multiple tasks effectively with flexibility.
  • Ability to be action oriented and demonstrate problem-solving skills and acute attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge, NXT, NetCommunity, Luminate online or similar CRM and online engagement systems.
  • Relevant experience using SQL/relational databases.
  • Working knowledge of technical and functional designs for databases, data warehousing and reporting
  • Knowledge of Tableau, or similar reporting and presentation tools.
  • Familiarity with APIs and data integration tools.
  • Ability to work individually and with project teams to implement and integrate hardware and software solutions to support project requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Experience with email marketing, online surveying, and social media platforms.
  • Invested in the College’s mission and the work of institutional advancement
  • Experience in the areas of higher education, non-profit fundraising, marketing analytics or research preferred.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred or any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Directly relevant experience will be strongly considered.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:
This is a regular, full-time, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.

The regular business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department. May require some evening and weekend work.

Hourly rate range: $30.00-$32.50. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

While the College values in-person instruction and interaction as one of its hallmarks of a residential liberal arts education, Scripps College recognizes that certain positions may be able to complete some work remotely. This position has been identified as one that can complete some duties remotely. A telecommuting schedule is provided at the discretion of the divisional Vice President and will be determined at the time of hire. The College reserves the right to modify the telecommuting policy at any time and adjust an employee’s telecommuting schedule based on the needs of the College and/or employee performance.
