Position Title: Adventure Guide
Department: Experience and Collaboration, Public Programming
Reports to: Public Engagement Program Manager
FLSA Designation: Non-exempt, part-time, working <30 hours per week

The science center provides powerful exhibitions and inspiring programs with exceptional guest experiences that deepen the engagement of all ages in science and science-related disciplines. The science center supports STEAM education and workforce development through industry collaboration by presenting science in an engaging, innovative manner.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is responsible for maintaining exhibit galleries and operating experiential exhibits (Kinetic Climber, Infinium Room, and MaxFlight) while delivering exceptional customer service to guests. Adventure Guides are expected to learn and comply with all safety procedures while maintaining an orderly atmosphere. Effective communication skills, commitment to guest experience, and a passion for learning and sharing the principles of science, technology, engineering, and math are essential attributes for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma required
  • Previous customer service experience preferred
  • Have the willingness to take initiative and make customer-focused decisions
  • Professional appearance and demeanor required
  • Be reliable, flexible, and dependable
  • Able to work 15-20 hours per week including weekends
  • Must be capable of general physical movement including standing, bending, and climbing throughout the day

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Daily operation of experiential exhibits includes, but is not limited to, welcoming guests, taking tickets, managing a queue area, giving a safety overview, and properly fitting safety equipment (helmet and harness, for example) on guests before operating ride or experience.
  • Convey exciting science-related information in a clear and concise manner while setting an example of quality customer service to create a memorable experience for all ASC guests.
  • Implement routine safety procedures such as weighing each guest (Kinetic Climber & MaxFlight) and conveying attributes such as flashing lights and loud sounds (Infinium Room) to ensure proper guidelines are being followed
  • Walk through science center galleries making sure exhibits are in working order and tidying exhibit pieces so that each gallery looks exceptional.
  • Support other staff (such as Makerspace and Planetarium) as deemed necessary by managers.
  • Learn and comply with all safety rules of the exhibits
  • Maintain knowledge of current museum exhibits and program content to convey exciting explanations to guests who are interacting with exhibits
  • Report technical, maintenance, safety, and security needs found on gallery floors to the appropriate staff members and/or departments
  • Anticipate guest needs and solve guest issues with a positive, courteous, and professional attitude
  • Initiate engaging conversations with guests waiting in line for exhibit experiences
  • Execute other duties deemed necessary by management based on museum needs

Operational Support

  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled
  • Perform core operational functions of guest safety and wayfinding
  • Assist during emergency and evacuation situations
