Job Description The AFLAC Technician functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team to organize and provide quality patient care services under the supervision of a licensed professional. Proactively supports the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promotes a safe environment at Children's.

Experience
  • No minimum experience required
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 years pediatric health care experience
Phlebotomy experience preferred

Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Certification Summary
  • Must have a certification as a Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Nursing Assistant or Patient Care Technician with pediatric or hospital experience, OR be a Registered Nursing Student who has successfully completed one clinical rotation, OR you must have at least one (1) year of previous clinical hospital experience
  • Competencies as defined by the department must be completed within six (6) months of hire.
  • American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers course or the American Red Cross course equivalent, which is CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, required within 30 days of hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills required
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and documentation of ongoing development and training.
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of date of hire.
Job Responsibilities
1.Assists in the basic delivery of patient care as assigned by licensed professional personnel using age and developmentally appropriate standards.- to include vital sign assessment and patient triage.
2.Demonstrates competency in phlebotomy skills or proficiency within first six months of hire.
3.Utilizes and maintains department and patient care equipment as assigned.
4.Communicates information relating to patient care job activities, needs and responsibilities for the assigned shift to appropriate personnel. Utilizes effective organization and communication skills in prioritizing, delivering, and documenting patient care, and documents the tasks/procedure/care that is provided.
5.Initiates and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of the quality of care and services provided.
6.Acts as a role model for organizational and developmental skills.
7.Assists departmental leadership team in the development of other staff members.
8.Accepts responsibility for own growth, development and professional conduct
9.While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate age specific guidelines. This age population includes: N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult
