Duties

As a AIRMAN AND FAMILY READINESS SPECIALIST, GS-0301-9/11, you will:

  • Assists the Air National Guard Wing leadership in the development and implementation of a family readiness and support program to include Personal and Family Life Education services, Airman and Family Readiness Deployment Support, Personal Financial Readiness services, Employment Assistance, Military Child/Youth Program and Education, Transition Assistance Program - Title 32 and 10 funding, Wounded, Ill, and Injured Warrior/member and or family member, Disaster Preparedness, Relocation Assistance Program, Exceptional Family Member Program , Community Outreach and Cooperative Interface, Voting Assistance Program, and Educates on Survivor
  • Provides advice and assistance to the unit leadership in identifying and addressing family issues and demographic trends, which impact mission readiness and retention. Identifies Wing family needs and concerns and presents appropriate plans, and recommendations to facilitate family readiness and support decisions. Ensures all recommendations are in accordance with applicable guidelines, policies, and regulations.
  • Provides plans for an efficient resource management program and maximum support of service delivery to include resource center (discovery center), equipment, funding, tracking, and computerized systems - AFFIRST, etc. Provides advice and assistance to accommodate family needs during full or partial unit mobilizations and to alleviate concern of unit members about family welfare in the event of mobilization.
  • Provides full services during full or partial federal or state mobilizations, call-ups, and/or military support missions. Provides plans that maximize readiness and support resources for unit family member assistance during day-to-day operations and especially for Aerospace Expeditionary Force deployments and full or partial unit mobilizations. Assesses, identifies, and determines Wing/GSU family issues, trends, needs, program priorities, and program effectiveness through utilization of appropriate research methods and resources. Analyzes ongoing family Wing/GSU services evaluation program and provides recommendations to resolve problems of overlap, duplication or conflict and to ensure effective goals and objectives are accomplished.
  • Coordinates information for seminars, conferences, and orientation workshops as appropriate for family members and volunteers. Conducts briefings and training for family members and volunteers. Attends conferences, workshops, and meetings on quality of life, family readiness, transition, and other support issues for purpose of receiving information as directed.
  • Attends staff meetings as required or at least monthly to report on family readiness and support program status and concerns, as well as special upcoming programs and events. Maintains adequate records and databases to administer the family program and to provide the necessary reports to the Mission Support Group Commander/Human Resource Officer Director of Personnel and SFPD.
  • Provides a quarterly report on expenditures to the Wing MSF Commander/DP and forwards to SFPD after the end of each quarter, as directed. Develops monthly or quarterly unit Family Readiness newsletters and solicits articles for the wing, state, and national family newsletters. Develops flyers for all unit related family events and maintains the unit family website.
  • Plans and schedules work in a manner that promotes a smooth flow and even distribution. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules. Assigns work to subordinate employees based on organization priorities and consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments such that the experience, training, and abilities of staff are effectively utilized to meet organization and customer needs. Balances workload and provides advice, guidance, and direction on a wide range of policy, investigative, inspection/exercise, strategic planning, and administrative issues. Structures assignments to create effective and economical positions.
  • Coordinates with other organization managers and customers as appropriate. Reviews organization mission, functions, and manning. Identifies requirements and initiates requests for additional resources including personnel, overtime, equipment, supplies, training and space to ensure success in meeting goals and objectives. Provides advice to supervisor on significant issues and problems related to work accomplishment. Accepts, amends, or rejects work presented by subordinates. Performs self-assessments and presents detailed and comprehensive reports with any corrective action taken to supervisor. Follows-up to ensure complete and quality resolution of discrepancies. Assesses and revises policies and procedures as needed to find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency of work.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
  • This position description must have at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment.
  • Position designated Essential Personnel, may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. Designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills along with assessing needs, crisis management, event planning, and public speaking and has independently input PII in the database of record.
  • Skilled in coordinating Family Readiness events, volunteer recognition and awards and Knowledge of Family Readiness regulations and guidance as it pertains to the Virgin Island Air National Guard.
  • Available to work alternate work shift to include, weekends, drill weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training involving Family Readiness, knowledge of a substantial body of administrative or program principles, concepts, policies, and objectives. Experience using computer and automation systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCEGS 09 : Must have at least 9 month experience, education, or training which demonstrates a thorough knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. I have experience analyzing problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognizing solutions. I have experience in communicating effectively orally and in writing; planning and organizing work. I have experience of a general clerical nature (typing, filing, routine procedural processing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS 11 : Must have at least 12 month of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9. I have experience and education in training which demonstrates a thorough knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. I have experience in communicating effectively orally and in writing; planning and organizing work. I have experience of a general clerical nature (typing, filing, routine procedural processing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks. must have had 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level.
