The City of Roanoke is seeking an Architect II to serve in the Engineering Division for the Department of Public Works. This position provides design and project management services in support of capital projects. Projects include both new construction and major renovation work. Responsibilities include project formulation and scoping, budgeting, cost estimating, scheduling, specification writing, client coordination and procurment of design and construction services. Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university in architecture, engineering, urban planning or related field with five to ten years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have demonstrated ability to analyze client needs and formulate cost effective solutions within defined scope and budget. Familiarity with sustainable design practices and LEED certification process is desired. Possession of a license to practice architecture in the Commonwealth of Virginia or have the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of appointment.

SUMMARY
Executes the building management plan with the Building Maintenance Department to identify, quantify, cost and phase building maintenance, remodeling, renovation, restoration and additions to buildings currently owned and/or leased by the City.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees and assists with project design to ensure specifications fulfill needs and project complies with City, State and Federal laws, codes and ordinances

Assists in the preparation of annual building maintenance programs that may include roof maintenance/replacement, heating and air conditioning maintenance/replacement plans and building upgrade programs

Performs professional architectural design and automated drafting work

Provides technical assistance to the Architectural Review Board

Assists in the development and training of other professional staff

Provides project management to professional engineers and architects in various projects

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises staff in the completion of assigned projects. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree from four- year college or university in architecture and urban planning or related field; Masters in rehabilitation of historic structures desired; five to ten years related experience and/or training in designing and building multi-story and multi-use public buildings; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
