The Institute for Diversity in the Arts (IDA) is an interdisciplinary program held within the Office of the Vice President for the Arts at Stanford University. IDA supports visionary arts leadership by stewarding the power of the arts toward social justice. IDA hosts artists, advances arts curriculum, stages experimental productions, and supports artistic leadership through year-long and summer-long fellowships. At IDA we believe that the arts are a powerful means for empowering difference, dismantling oppression, and building more sustainable futures.


The Arts Community Partner reports to the Director of the Institute for Diversity in the Arts in support of IDA’s organizational advancement and new programmatic initiatives. You will support IDA in building sustained community partnerships with organizations regionally and nationally who are innovating in arts and equity. The intention is to co-create rich knowledge bases, community tools, and convening opportunities, influencing the necessary and overdue shifts beginning to occur sector wide. You will also partner with communication at IDA, including grant writing efforts to share and scale IDA’s expertise, activities, and accomplishments. This position is fixed term until August 31, 2023 and is 0.80 FTE with an equivalency of 32 hours of work per week.


In this role, you will:

Advancement and Fundraising
  • Work with IDA’s Director to design efforts in securing new and untapped funding resources external to the university.
  • Research new potential funders, bridge relationships with funders, and oversee aspects of grant proposals including preparing and submitting LOI’s and proposals in collaboration with administrative and program staff.
  • Gather data to demonstrate IDA’s impact for use in future proposals and reporting.

Community Partnership
  • Map and build community partnerships with organizations regionally who are innovating in the area of arts and equity.
  • Propose activities that can connect IDA’s work with the stated needs of community partners.
  • Report trends in the sector that tap into IDA’s expertise and that push IDA’s mission forward.

Teaching
  • Design and teach one undergraduate course that advances practices in art, justice and community empowerment. Document learnings from that course for future uses in IDA community engaged courses and initiatives.
  • Be available for student advising in association with course taught during the academic year. Submit grades in accordance with university standards and practices.


Please note that this position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered hybrid 2 days in office 3 days remote.
