The Department of Mathematics of Bryant University invites applicants for a tenure track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in the area of Actuarial Mathematics to begin August, 2023. The search will continue until an appropriate candidate is hired.

The Department of Mathematics, through its commitment to academic excellence, provides the foundation for critical thinking in quantitative problem solving and reasoning. Faculty help students to develop their ability to effectively communicate mathematics, and prepare them for success in a career in actuarial mathematics, applied mathematics, applied statistics, or other professions. The department offers two majors, two concentrations, and two minors. It also supports the multidisciplinary applied analytics concentration, and offers a SAS Data Mining Certificate, one of the very few in the nation offered at the undergraduate level.
Principal Accountabilities
Principal responsibilities of this position include:
  • Teaching primarily undergraduate actuarial courses, along with, as necessary, other undergraduate mathematics courses.
  • Advising students at all levels of the department’s curriculum.
  • Assisting students with research or other relevant projects.
  • Developing and pursuing an active program of research resulting in peer-reviewed publications.
  • Participating in appropriate service to the department, the college, and the university at large.
  • Contributing to the development of a master’s degree and/or graduate certificate in Actuarial Mathematics.
Qualifications
At the time of the appointment, candidates must:
  • Have a doctoral degree in actuarial science or a related field (e.g., mathematics, statistics, finance) from an accredited university.
  • Demonstrate evidence of a strong commitment to, and excellence in, teaching.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a strong research program that will include peer-reviewed publications.
  • Have familiarity with one or more statistical software packages.
  • Have some experience with remote / online teaching.
  • Be prepared to assist with the development of a graduate actuarial certificate and/or an actuarial master’s degree program.


Strong preference will be given to candidates who have actuarial credentials (associateship or fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society or the Society of Actuaries) or have made significant progress toward that goal.

Working Environment
This is a full-time tenure track position. The normal teaching load for tenure track faculty, who are actively engaged in scholarly research and publication, is nine (9) hours per semester. The normal teaching load for newly appointed Assistant Professors, who do not receive credit toward promotion for prior teaching experience, shall be twelve (12) hours per academic year for the first academic year of service at the University.
