Job Summary
The Assistant Director of the Chicago Child Protection Training Academy (CCPTA) will provide leadership in simulation facilitation and support the Associate Director of the Chicago Child Protection Training Academy in the administration of the simulation program. Responsible for providing coaching, support and training related to simulation learning events for child welfare staff. This position will also support program administration through: facilitating debriefing for simulations, assisting in simulation development, overseeing simulation weeks, training child welfare staff, training actors, training new simulation facilitators and support staff, and supervising a limited number of simulation facilitators.
Responsibilities

Training
  • Facilitate training for the professional development of new and veteran child welfare staff within the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS) and its assigned private agency child welfare partners. This includes training newly hired and veteran child protection Investigators, Intact Family Services staff, and Permanency staff in both the classroom and related simulation education experience. This requires working collaboratively with IDCFS and University training facilitators to synthesize pre-service and in-service curriculum learned in classroom into skill based experiential learning.
  • Facilitate training, coaching, and learning session debriefs with learning participants during residential, mock medical/multi-purpose lab, and courtroom simulations.
  • Facilitate training, coaching and support to simulation actors as needed both during and outside of simulation learning events.
  • Provide training to trainers on areas of need:
  • Training of the Trainers, Onboarding and Delivery of Foundations material
  • Classroom Management and Skills Building
  • Specific investigative, intact and permanency foundational topics
  • Support trainers in the classroom and simulation events as needed, modeling classroom management and delivery of content.
Administrative
  • Assist the Associate Director of Chicago Child Protection Training Academy (CCPTA) with the day to day programmatic operations and assume primary responsibility for such operations during times of absence for the Associate Director.
  • May assist in the process of hiring, training and handing of discipline of assigned simulation facilitators.
  • Responsible for the supervisor and performance reviews of a limited number of assigned simulation facilitators and/or staff.
  • Communicates with senior administration on behalf of the Associate Director.
  • Acts as a proxy for the Associate Director as needed or in his/her absence.
  • Collaborates with Associate Director to sustain, promote and grow departmental programs and services.
  • Manages the initial development of proposals for departments needs (i.e. new equipment, software, supplies, etc.)
  • Participates in the strategic planning meetings and may preside over meetings as needed.
  • Assist with the maintaining and development and/or oversight of the development of SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures), ToT's (Training of Trainer), files and records.
  • Organizes meetings and the drafting of agendas, communication with participants, minutes, etc.

Curricula and Content
  • Research, review, and report on latest laws, procedure changes, professional information, and literature as it applies to curriculum needs.
  • Assist in development and design of new curricula simulation scenarios, integrating research into educational content, training manuals, handouts, PowerPoints, etc.
  • Collaborate with the CCCPTA Simulations Logistics Coordinator, CCCPTA Associate Director, Office of Learning and Professional Development (OLPD) and other University partners to develop character profiles for simulation trainings.

Other Requirements
  • Prepare/stage residential labs, mock court room, and mock medical/multiple purpose lab for simulations; organizes and collaborates with Simulation Logistics Coordinator and Associate Director of CCPTA to ensure actors are in place and learning participants complete all simulation experience tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with University partners, IDCFS, and stakeholders to assist the program in maintaining alignment to the mission of the CCPTA and the IDCFS' ongoing use of simulations, and fidelity to IDCFS' approach to simulation learning for child welfare staff.
  • Endorse and educate the community and outside interests on the mission and goals of the workforce development partnership with IDCFS and the mission of the University.
  • Attend other IDCFS and/or Workforce Development Program trainings and meetings as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree in Social Work, Social Services, Human Services or related field of study. A minimum of six years direct service experience in child protection investigations and/or child welfare.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with a combination of child protection, intact and permanency experience. Three years of experience with teaching adult learners or facilitating professional development trainings is preferred. Experience in working with professional actors. Able to or have demonstrated experience with providing coaching and critical feedback to employees and/or adult learners.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proficient use in basic audio/video online streaming and recording, computers, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Familiar with SharePoint, Microsoft Teams, Outlook Systems. Strong oral communication and writing skills. Proficiency in motivating and engaging adult learners, collaborating within multi-tiered partnerships, and in working within complex organizational structures.

Knowledge of simulated learning advancements in child welfare, understanding of and proficient knowledge of providing constructive feedback.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the job posting close date. Salary is commensurate with experience. The minimum of the salary range for this position is $65,000. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
