Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. We operate over 60 programs across New York City, Northern New Jersey and Westchester County including emergency, transitional and permanent housing. Our services extend to families experiencing homelessness, survivors of domestic violence, people living with HIV/AIDS, veterans, youth aging out of foster care, adults with behavioral health or substance use needs, and others in need, including a special education preschool program.

The Assistant Director of Curriculum & Instruction is responsible for improving the teaching/learning process for all students, implementing quality professional development for staff, and ensuring all administrative work for funders is completed.

Minimum Qualifications:
M.S. in Special Education, New York State Certification in School Administration and Supervision (SAS) or School Building Leadership (SBL). The candidate will have at least two (2) years teaching experience with students with disabilities, preferably with students Birth-Grade 2.

Supervisory Role:
This position does have supervisory responsibilities.

Principal Responsibilities:
1. Assistant director ensures that instruction meets New York State educations standards (Pre-K Core Standards) and the National Association for the Education of the Young Child (NAEYC) standards and criteria.
2. Assistant director evaluates all teachers’ professional performance by conducting classroom observations (e.g., CLASS) during designated time periods during the year.
3. Assistant director conducts staff development training sessions in curriculum areas such as, but not limited to: implementation of The Creative Curriculum, including content areas (e.g., literacy, science); working with English Language Learners; designing learning environments; differentiated instruction, inquiry based learning and other pertinent instructional areas. Present curriculum and instructional information to parents during meetings and workshops.
4. Assistant director works directly in classrooms with teachers, teacher assistants, and other staff as necessary, to ensure that teaching/learning practices are developmentally appropriate and individualized to address the needs of all students.
5. Assistant director coordinates and monitors the purchase of curriculum materials.
6. Assistant director completes administrative work for funders (e.g., monthly attendance for U-Pre-K).
7. Assistant director monitors and reviews students’ Quarterly Reports, content of Individualized Education Programs, and data (i.e., monthly outcomes).
8. Perform other related duties as required.
