A Japanese life science company is seeking a Japanese Bilingual Assistant Director of Strategic Planning within the organization.

The Assistant Director of Strategic Planning is a critical member of R&D team and is responsible for developing the business strategy for R&D as well as implementing other corporate strategy initiatives of Corporation by forming alliances with external parties. This individual will create a strategic roadmap to accelerate business collaboration & innovation, drive critical initiatives across the company, and facilitate strategic prioritization processes that focus the organization on the most strategic and impactful initiatives.

The ideal candidate must have the direct experience in developing business strategies and promoting business or R&D by forming alliances or contracts with external parties ; working experience in the Health Care Technology Company is highly desired or Life Science, Biotechnology, and/or Medical industries is preferred. Master's degree with minimum 7 years of working experience or equivalent working experience.

Must have business level of Japanese language skills.

This position is hybrid working style (50% work from home).


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • With input from the management team of R&D, the Assistant Director, Strategic Planning will develop a business strategy and strategic roadmap to achieve collaborations & innovation by leading exploration efforts of external collaboration and innovation opportunities, crystallizing a direction aligned with management goals, and planning/promoting concrete activities.
  • Conduct complex analysis of external/internal environmental data (market trend, competitor analysis, and group's business and technology, etc.) to conduct business portfolio management, market understanding, and strategic planning.
  • Lead the implementation of alliances with external parties in cooperation with related divisions of R&D to realize the strategies.
  • Be responsible for negotiation, preparation and management of various contracts with external parties, which are necessary for R&D's strategy execution (non-disclosure agreement, co-research agreement, business collaboration agreement, material transfer agreement, etc.).
  • Develop response(s) to change of partner and/or competitor's strategy.
  • Support the President / the management team of R&D and the Executives for providing a value-added support in their strategic planning process and activities by developing strong relationships with related departments of group companies.
  • Track strategy execution by working with other divisions of R&D, and report each execution status to the management team of R&D.
  • Report to the Management team of R&D about the outcomes of responsible activities (e.g. strategic planning, industry environment research, etc.).
  • Other duties as requested.


Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience, minimum 10 years, in science technology, business management, or both.
  • Previous work experience in strategy development of a business company.
  • Work experience in a healthcare technology company, a consulting company supporting healthcare business or an investment banking firm.
  • Work experience in legal knowledge and procedures to promote alliances with external parties.
  • Preferer experience leading project teams and completing projects, or comprehension about science technology, or having science technology background.
  • Mandatory: English/Japanese language ability
  • Third language ability a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability, including strong conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to turn findings into executable business plans.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with an ability to influence business decisions at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven experience leading cross functional teams to documented results.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines.
  • Track record in overseeing and executing projects.
  • Proficient with a variety of strategic planning concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Logical thinking, research skills (document research, hearing, analyzing, interpreting financial reports), persuasion skills (making materials, presentation) and project management skills
  • Goal oriented, independent, proactive approach and involving/influencing to stakeholders
