Job SummaryThe Department of Geospatial Science at Radford University invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geospatial Science position to start in Fall of 2022. Radford University is committed to taking a leadership role in creating and supporting a highly productive, diverse and qualified workforce. We are seeking a faculty member experienced in environmental studies and geospatial analysis with a strong background in quantitative methods. Expertise in environmental geography and geographic information science are needed to teach classes for our program’s two concentrations – 1) Environmental Studies and 2) GIS , Remote Sensing, and Data Analytics. Physical Demands
Required Qualifications
Required qualifications are a Ph.D. in geospatial science, geography, or a related discipline by the time of the August 2022 appointment.
Expertise in environmental studies and geographic information science are required with research focus in land use, water resources, sustainability, and/or environmental regulation.
Mastery of the ESRI Suite or similar geographic information systems is needed.
Candidates must demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching for both lectures and labs, in student-faculty research, and in the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
Preferred Qualifications
A recent degree with a focus on environmental and geospatial analysis, including field and laboratory skills.
Demonstrate teaching and research applications related to environmental phenomena but the area of specialization is open.
Mastery of AutoCAD, ERDAS IMAGINE , R, Python, and similar spatial analysis software is preferred. Use of unmanned aerial vehicles, GPS technology, surveying equipment, and virtual reality are a plus.
Proven success teaching online classes and in using online teaching resources will be viewed favorably as some courses may require online delivery. [SC1]
A record of accomplishment incorporating diverse perspectives in teaching, scholarship, and/or outreach, as well as experience with a wide variety of teaching methods focused on diverse learners would be beneficial.
