Part-time Faculty Positions
DePaul University invites expressions of interest for a pool of qualified Part Time Faculty to teach courses in a variety of disciplines across all 10 colleges and schools. Individuals may enter expressions of interest by submitting their credentials to any posting for which they are qualified to teach. Postings are organized by college/school and department. Screening of individuals in the pool is ongoing, depending on curricular need and funding. Individuals will be contacted by the department if they reach the finalist stage for teaching a particular course or set of courses. The pool will remain in place until the closing date specified in the posting details; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must resubmit. All individuals in the pool will be notified by email when the posting is closed.

Responsibilities:The Criminology Program invites applications for two tenure-line, assistant professor appointments for Academic Year 2023-2024. Areas of specialization are open. Teaching responsibilities may include Introduction to the Criminal Legal System, Policing, Corrections, Criminological Theory, Race, Class, and Gender, and the Criminal Legal System, or other courses required by the Criminology major. Successful candidates will also be those able and willing to teach Research Methods or Statistics as needed.
The Criminology Department at DePaul University is a new and rapidly growing undergraduate major in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences. Located on DePaul’s loop campus in downtown Chicago, the Department provides students with an in-depth understanding of the various aspects of the criminal legal system. DePaul’s Criminology major emphasizes critical thinking, strong analytical and writing skills, ethical considerations, and social justice. The major includes three concentration areas: Community Justice, Criminal Justice Administration, and Race, Class, Gender and the Criminal Legal System.
The Department is seeking faculty to participate in collaborative efforts to foster teaching effectiveness, assessment of student learning, creative scholarship and research, and those interested in developing new course offerings.
Successful applications will be required to support the Department and the University’s mission through teaching, scholarship and research activities, and service.
Teaching expectations include:
- supporting student learning, retention, persistence, and program completion;
- completing professional development;
- teaching assigned courses that may include day, evening, online, or hybrid courses
- teaching at either the Lincoln Park or Chicago Loop campuses as needed;
- posting and holding office hours;
- maintaining and improving competence in the subjects taught; and
- advising students about career opportunities.
Scholarly or research expectations include:
- conducting research or producing scholarly works in the area of criminology or criminal justice, including community-engaged scholarship or applied research;
- seeking opportunities to engage students in research activities;
- presenting at professionally recognized venues; and
- sharing one’s scholarship and research activities through peer review journals or other professionally recognized publication types.
Service expectations include:
- support of student organizations or activities;
- participation in Department, College, and University committees;
- work supporting local, state, national agencies or communities; and
- participation and leadership in professional organizations as appropriate to the discipline.
The preferred candidate will have a Ph.D. in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or closely related field, with demonstrated effective teaching and research experience in the area of criminology or criminal justice. ABD candidates with significant progress toward dissertation completion or JD candidates with demonstrated experience teaching and scholarship in the area of criminology or criminal justice will also be considered.
DePaul seeks candidates with demonstrated cultural competencies to include teaching, service and research in diverse learning communities.
Candidates invited to campus as part of the interview process will be asked to complete two presentations to students and faculty: one research and one teaching presentation.
