Job Summary

In coordination with peer Assistant Store Manager, assist and support the Store Manager in planning, coordinating and managing store operations so as to control costs, meet targeted labor, maintain projected profit margins, meet or exceed sales goals, provide a pleasant and safe shopping experience for customers and a safe, professional working environment for employees. Monitor maintaining and replenishing stock in order to continually meet customers’ purchasing needs. Consistently provides world class customer service to internal and external customers. Performs other related work.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers. Maintain and encourage an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis of taking care of the customer.

Provide exceptional customer service by telephone, email, and in person.

  • Manage overall store operations, ensuring compliance with WinCo Foods Company Policies, State and

Federal Laws and the store’s Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Monitor the hour to hour store appearance and conditions to ensure high standards of cleanliness, efficiency and productivity are met. Demonstrate understanding of store priorities and anticipates changes.
  • Monitor employee effectiveness and productivity store wide and ensure efficient labor utilization in all departments.
  • Supervise, direct, motivate, train and hire grocery department personnel. Monitors employee performance, perform personnel functions as necessary, (i.e. hiring, training, disciplinary decisions, disciplinary actions, terminations).
  • Schedule personnel according to coverage needs and service level, maintaining a safe and secure work environment.
  • Utilize appropriate company software and/or systems to perform work and document activities according to WinCo policy and standards.
  • Monitor and maintain the quality condition of all products. Ensure all products are stocked, rotated and faced, and that outdated and spoiled products are appropriately managed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and eye-appeal of the sales floor, storage area, equipment and retail displays according to company policy and legal regulations; clean work area by mopping, sweeping, taking out garbage, etc. as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe environment for customers and employees thereby controlling general liability and workers’ compensation costs.
  • Show enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward fellow employees and customers. Set an example of personal integrity, appearance and ethical business practices providing a standard of conduct for all store personnel. Lead by example.
  • Ensure proper merchandising of product by understanding schematics, merchandising advertised and special items, proper signing procedures and meeting customer demand. Evaluate and implement store merchandising plans.
  • Coordinate with Store Management to evaluate and implement store merchandising plans.
  • Break down freight by moving product, placing it in inventory, operating fork lift, etc.
  • Perform delegated responsibilities in the absence of Store Manager and as assigned.
  • Assist the Store Manager in achieving or exceeding projected labor and productivity goals.
  • Performs all job duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years in a retail salary exempt supervisor or salary exempt management role with direct supervisory responsibilities (e.g. interviewing, scheduling, hiring, counseling, training, disciplining, etc.)
  • Utilizing excellent verbal, written and inter-personal communication skills to establish and maintain rapport with employees, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc.
  • Demonstrating a strong understanding of overall company practices; an in-depth understanding of policies/procedures and the ability to judge/react to customer and employee needs professionally and appropriately, maintaining composure at all times.
  • Operating computers with Windows applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. in a work setting.
  • Applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail in order to effectively monitoring progress and complete assignments, performing all duties with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Representing expertise in the area of merchandising.
  • Conducting visual inspections, reading reports, computer printouts, computer screen, etc.
  • Accepting direction from multiple sources and effectively managing time to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrating initiative and self-direction to perform a variety of simultaneous skills (multi-tasking), fielding and prioritizing different tasks, phone calls and projects with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrating adaptability and flexibility when confronted with challenging situations or obstacle; comfortable with change and ambiguity.

Ability to:

  • Consistently provide world class customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Participate in and successfully complete the WinCo Manager Apprentice program.
  • Efficiently & accurately operate check stand equipment such as scales, scanners, and cash registers.
  • Utilize appropriate computer programs to perform tasks such as employee scheduling, product ordering, etc. Effectively understand and operate AS400/NCR Systems.
  • Respectfully challenge standard practices to find a better way to get things done.
  • Perform basic math (add, subtract, divide and multiply), compute weights and measures and calculate profit margins.
  • Work any scheduled work shifts including evenings, graveyard, overnight, weekends and holidays as scheduled or required.
  • Obtain necessary certification to safely and efficiently operate required equipment including powered industrial forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
  • Stand, walk and move rapidly for long periods of time.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally, bend at waist and twist upper body frequently, repetitive use of hands continually.
  • Push and pull hand trucks and pallet jacks containing product of substantial weight.
  • Perform primary duties efficiently and accurately.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Food Handlers Certification (Per State Laws)

Machines and Equipment Operated:

  • Office machines (computer terminal, copier/scanner, 10-key, fax machine, telephone, etc)
  • Forklift, Electric and manual Pallet Jack, Push Carts and hand trucks.
  • Garbage & cardboard compactors.

Preferred Education, Experience and/or Credentials:

  • Extensive retail grocery supervisory or management experience in a fast passed high volume store.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field of study.
