Position Summary:
The Assistant Vice President for Correctional Education is responsible for leading and executing the university’s strategy for incarcerated, reentry, and formerly incarcerated students and building, developing and managing relationships with the various state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and not for profit organizations that serve the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated persons. Serve with the President and the Executive Leadership Team in developing a comprehensive, innovative, and bold vision for the university’s incarcerated and formerly incarcerated persons. The Assistant Vice President ensures compliance with university policies and procedures and optimization of resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage key relationships with the various state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, governmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, and not for profit organizations and build new ones.
  • Research and identify new opportunities and enrollment growth.
  • Propose, develop and build new strategic partnerships and alliances.
  • Develop and strengthen internal relationships.
  • Provide advice and insights to the Provost, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Marketing, and Vice President and CFO on market, academic program and student success expectations and trends for the incarcerated and formerly incarcerated persons.
  • Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to quality student-centered service and student success.
  • Present at conferences to raise Ashland University academic programs, student success services, and reentry programs and services awareness.
  • Make Ashland University full value proposition known and understood.


Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Stay current on market trends and identify and assess opportunities for innovation to adapt in the changing environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and projects, meet deadlines, use sound judgment, and interpret local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations; through self-directed professional readings and attending professional development training.
  • Serve on various strategic and operational committees, taskforces, and working groups such as the Correctional Education Advisory Committee and Correctional Education Council.
  • Ability to work after hours and weekends as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor of Science or Arts from and accredited college or university required

  • Ability to work independently, multitask and coordinate activities across a range of functional areas and activities
  • Relationship management

  • Proficiency with technology such as Microsoft 365 business platform and other information systems

Experience:
  • Successful track record, 5 – 7 years, of developing leads, proposal development, and winning contracts with corporations and governmental agencies required
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of project management experience required

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
  • Master’s degree or higher preferred


Experience:
  • Prison education programs and higher education industry experience preferred
  • Skills in working with faculty preferred

  • This position operates in a professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
  • This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. From time to time working hours may be modified and exceed the standard work week. The position requires travel.
  • This position is open to a hybrid remote work schedule with frequent visits to the Ashland University main campus.
