Job Purpose
The Collections Associate Attorney acts as primary client contact for legal matters, oversight of legal processes, and to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures.
This position can be full-time - or part-time (approximately 30 hours weekly)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and maintain department procedures and policies
- Oversee and ensure compliance with the FDCPA,HIPAA, and state laws
- Update and improve account management functionality and automation
- Manage all third party vendors for legal process and oversee New York and New Jersey legal actions, settlement/resolutions of legal cases
- Handle all disputed accounts, work with other departments to resolve complex insurance coverage denials
- Coordinate strategies and discuss accounts with clients directly
- Manage legal clerk
- Train new employees on legal policy and procedures, organize case files, and streamline case management processes
- Perform extensive searches of FDCPA topics and recent New York Collections Law decisions
Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate degree
- Admission to New York State Bar
- Minimum three plus years’ experience with debt collection and FDCPA laws
- Detail oriented and highly organized
- Managerial experience preferred
Working Conditions
- Some travel to Court may be required
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear.
- Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
- Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
