About the Position
Cobalt is a fast-growing enterprise business software development company that is focused on delivering customer relationship management (CRM) solutions using Microsoft Dynamics 365. Our consulting and project delivery team is looking for a leader who can help us navigate the challenges and opportunities that come with scaling a professional services practice. As the Associate Director of Consulting Services, you will work with the Director of Consulting Services to create and implement a strategic vision for the department, improve our existing project delivery and governance processes, directly supervise and mentor junior team members, monitor department KPIs and use data-driven decision making, and act as a senior project manager for sophisticated D365 implementation projects. You will also be expected to deliver speaking engagements at industry events, assist the sales team with proposals and estimates for prospective customers, and assist the department with the hiring process for new consultants.

Primary Duties
Your primary responsibilities are broken up into four major areas:
STRATEGIC

  • Assist with annual business planning, KPI monitoring, and quarterly report writing;
  • Own at least one annual strategic initiative to improve department operations;
  • Help define and revise Cobalt's software project implementation methodology;

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Supervise junior team members;
  • Assist with hiring and training of new team members;
  • Continuously improve the onboarding experience of new team members;
  • Mentor junior consultants;

ADMINISTRATIVE

  • Own the Long-Term Resource Planning (LTRP) process;
  • Assist with weekly scheduling of projects and resources;
  • Assist sales with estimates, proposals, and demos for prospective customers;
  • Promote Cobalt at industry events by attending and speaking;

CLIENTS

  • Act as the PMO (project management officer) for a subset of Cobalt's customers and as the primary project manager for one or two projects at a time.

As a project management officer:

  • Assist project managers with executing Cobalt processes while managing projects;
  • Act as a point of escalation for client concerns and coach the project manager on how to work through project challenges;
  • Ensure that the project is headed for success by providing appropriate advice and removing relevant impediments; and,
  • Work with Cobalt management to advocate for the client and project manager when appropriate.

As a senior project manager:

  • Manage projects through all phases of the software development life cycle following Cobalt's unique adaption of agile software development and scrum methodologies;
  • Send status reports, identify and manage risks, create and manage the project plan, manage the project budget; and
  • Execute all project tasks (or delegate to junior resources): system configuration, gather requirements, write functional documentation, execute code rollouts, complete quality assurance, conduct training, and coordinate on data migration.

Required Qualifications

  • A Master's Degree in business, data analytics, technology, or engineering-related field
  • 8+ years of work experience in the delivery of software projects
  • 2+ years of experience managing project managers (or team leads)
  • A valid PMP certification
  • Demonstrable experience in becoming skilled in new technology platforms
  • Experience leading and motivating people with empathy and fairness
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience in de-escalation and conflict resolution
  • Experience with analyzing and improving organizational processes by monitoring and analyzing KPIs
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Fluency in English
  • Ability to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
