SUMMARY:
Assumes responsibility for administration of beauty school operations according to policy, procedures, and budget guidelines established which are in part based upon regulatory and accreditation agencies, as applicable. This includes, but is not limited to, student training, student retention, and faculty management and development.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Manage the selection, hiring, and supervision of faculty. Continual monitoring of instructional quality and professional development and growth of faculty. Scheduling and sequencing of classes in accordance with student’s needs, budget guidelines, and accreditation criteria.
- Responsible to meet cosmetology program goals as set forth in quarterly and annual Institutional Effectiveness Planning meetings by strategically implementing new methods and utilizing key staff to aid in processes.
- Responsible to meet program financial goals as set forth in quarterly and annual budget meetings.
- Responsible with his/her staff for maintenance of the physical plant to ensure that it provides a safe, clean, and professional environment conducive to student recruitment, student training, and student retention. The physical plant should serve two major functions: (1) it is conducive to the learning process. (2) The appearance of the building should maximize marketability of the schools by presenting a neat, orderly and business-like environment.
- Responsible in ensuring that school operations are compliant with regulatory and accreditation agencies, as applicable to the institution.
- Assist with daily, weekly, modular, and annual reports and ensure that the reports are accurately completed on a timely basis.
- Lead and manage attendance, academic progress, and student retention efforts.
- Responsible with his/her staff for providing students the opportunity to actively participate in community events, beauty competitions, and/or professional networking events.
- Provide training for faculty to ensure ethical and compliant operations according to Dorsey Schools’ policies and procedures and all regulatory bodies.
- **All other duties as assigned and deemed necessary.
KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS – ABILITIES:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills as well as active, empathetic listening.
- Ability to motivate, guide, and help students complete their program of study.
- Ability to motivate, guide, and help faculty to mentor and educate students.
- Strong ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work well with a team of other department managers to ensure symmetry of operations.
- Must be resourceful and able to problem solve; strong initiative and solid judgment.
- Must be reliable with strong time management skills and ability to work well under pressure.
- Proficient with basic office equipment, computers, and computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of Dorsey policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of regulatory and accreditation agencies, as applicable.
- Working knowledge of CampusVue software preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Evening or weekend hours, if necessary, to meet deadlines.
- Weekly travel required between designated schools.
- Position requires long periods of sitting or standing.
- Extensive use of office equipment including computer, copier, printer, scanner, fax, and postage meter.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of three years management experience; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Knowledge of overall school operations including student recruitment, school administration, teaching experience, financial aid, and regulations established by regulatory and accreditation agencies, as applicable.
- The candidate must demonstrate a history of effective leadership through teamwork and organization.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and have sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a phone, computer keyboard, and other office equipment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 10 pounds.
