Job Summary
The Office of Grant and Research Development, Eastern Washington University is inviting qualified applicants to apply for our full-time
Associate for Grant Development position.
The position will be part of the Grants Office team, under the direction of the Executive Director and Associate Director. The Associate for Grant Development will actively seek out, develop and submit appropriate and high-quality grant proposals that will help to grow programs and research enterprises.

Required Qualifications
To be considered qualified for this position, you must meet the minimum qualifications defined below:
- Ability to articulate the mission, vision and values of Eastern Washington University.
- Bachelor’s degree in technical writing, English, communications, creative writing or other closely related field.
- Demonstrated past professional experience writing and submitting grant/contract proposals.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to follow guidelines and instructions.
- Ability to effectively monitor progress and track results.
- Ability to work under pressure as part of a team and take direction.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Technological proficiency
- Demonstrated interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility, and/or diversity.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in related field.
- At least three years of experience writing and submitting grant/contact proposals in a professional setting.
- Certificate in project management.
- Prior experience in a university office of sponsored programs, office of development, or nonprofit organization writing and submitting grant proposals.
- Working knowledge using grant searching databases, preferable Foundation Search.
- Working understanding of electronic research administration portals such as Grants.gov, Research.gov and eRA Commons.

- Demonstrated skills relevant to proposal development and electronic submission of grant proposals.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work as part of a team, the ability to make complex decisions with a high level of initiative and judgment in a variety of situations.

- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a proactive manner.
- This individual must maintain a broad network of internal working relationships, and have up-to-date knowledge of university policies and procedures and federal, state and agency/sponsor regulations, laws and guidelines.

Research grant opportunities that will help to grow programs and research enterprises at the university.
- Actively pursue appropriate opportunities and submit at least 25 grant proposals annually.
- Become familiar with the mission, objectives and needs of the university to seek appropriate grant opportunities effectively.
- Routinely review and analyze funding databases, announcements and websites to identify funding opportunities and distribute these opportunities to EWU faculty and staff on a regular basis.
- Seek out grant opportunities that are appropriate to college and departmental needs.
- Interpret grantor guidelines pertaining to specific proposals.
- Become familiar with grant-makers’ electronic submission requirements.
- Advise and support executive director and associate director as appropriate.
- Research issues of importance to the Grants Office as assigned by the executive director.

Develop and serve as the principal writer on various grant applications including government, tribal, foundation and corporate funders.
- Consult with various key units to obtain information necessary for the development of fundable institutional proposals, including information required to address specific grant criteria.
- Proofread proposals for clarity and coherence including correcting typographical and other writing errors.
- Aid in the development of letters of commitment for the signatures of president, provost and deans as needed.
- Assemble all proposal submission components including but not limited to need, objectives, outcomes and deliverables and evaluation and prepare for submission.

- Assist with proposing ideas, designing, developing and writing proposals for university-wide funding efforts.
