Job Summary:
This position is for a Research Assistant Professor whose academic home will be in the Department of Biomedical Informatics. The overall goals of the research group where this faculty member will work are to build, deploy, and evaluate clinical decision support tools using complex and high-volume clinical data, often in high-risk environments such as intensive care units. We also develop methods and tools necessary to achieve our mission and to fill critical gaps in the field.
The Research Assistant Professor will be expected to work independently and in collaboration with other members of the research group and other teams on campus and nationally and internationally. They will provide professional and scientifically rigorous biostatistics and data science expertise. This may include workflow and tool development, development and testing of computational and analytic solutions, study design and analytic consultation, complex data visualization techniques, and dissemination of results to a variety of audiences with varying levels of computational and statistical expertise. Primary authorship and co-authorship on abstracts, oral and poster presentations, and scientific manuscripts will be involved. Preference will be given to those with broad computational skills and experience with complex data structures, distributed analytic tools, relational databases, cloud computing, techniques for reproducibility, and open source solutions.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
- PhD in Biostatistics
- 5+ years of experience after PhD as a data scientist or biostatistician
- 5+ years professional experience with machine learning techniques, distributed and cloud computing, version control and techniques for reproducibility
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with management of large relational databases and the ability to extract data from SQL-based and other databases
- Experience collaborating with national biomedical and scientific agencies
- Experience managing or co-managing multi-user Linux-based computational servers
- Current CU Anschutz Faculty
- Post-training track record of developing innovative R packages as evidenced by at least 5 R packages available on CRAN.
- Post-training track record of developing innovative Shiny apps and other forms of dissemination as evidenced by published manuscripts that include links to functional Shiny apps.
- Significant manuscript development and publication experience including at least 50 published manuscripts
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of basic statistical principles relevant in health medical research
- Ability to analyze and creatively solve complex problems
- Strong programming skills in R, Python, SQL
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to disseminate results to a wide variety of audiences
- Good organizational skills across multiple projects and the ability to manage one's own work load, self-directed
- A positive attitude and the ability to work with a variety of investigators and colleagues

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:
$115,000 to $125,000
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
