POSITION TITLE: Behavioral Health Specialist – LICSW

JOB OVERVIEW: The Behavioral Health Specialist is responsible for providing evaluation, consultation, care management and short-term psychotherapy services for patients referred to the BHIP (Behavioral Health Integration Program). Services are provided in the primary care setting.
ASSIGNMENT AREA: Split between Fairwood Primary Care and Cascade Primary Care
HOURS OF WORK: Typically Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or as needed to support department needs. Hybrid model of remote and inpatient visits.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Psychiatry and Counseling Manager
PREREQUISITES:
State of Washington Licensure in LICSW, LMHC or LMFT required.
Post graduate experience in providing MH services to adult population.
Experienced in use of electronic health record (EHR) preferred
Ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing.
Ability to write legibly, spell correctly, and use accepted grammar.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to assess the psychological and social needs of patients, as well as to plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of plans which address them.
Knowledge of the DSM 5 and how-to diagnosis MH disorders
Demonstrates expertise in providing short-term psychotherapy services to an adult population
Effective communication skills including conflict management skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as a team member.
Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with the interdisciplinary team of care providers to coordinate care for patients.
Sensitivity to coordinate care for patients from a variety of ethnic, cultural, social, and economic backgrounds and with varied mental health needs.
Knowledge of community resources and how to access them effectively and efficiently.
Knowledge of the healthcare financial environment, reimbursement, and levels of care preferred
Ability to work independently without close supervision.
Ability to function in a setting with a wide variety of duties and numerous interruptions.
Ability to set priorities among multiple demands; produce accurate work, and meet deadlines.
Neat and well-groomed appearance.
Experience with Epic preferred.

B. Unique Job Functions:
Complete assessment and plan appropriate to the patient's physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and developmental state.
Meets monthly with Psychiatry and Counseling Manager for supervision.
Track patient follow up and clinical outcomes in registry.
Facilitate referrals for services outside the primary care clinic as appropriate.
Participates in improvement projects to aid BHIP.
Works in collaboration with the BHIP psychiatrist.
Keeps Manager at Psychiatry and Counseling Clinic informed of potential or actual problems in a timely manner.
Monitors patients (in person or by telephone) for changes in clinical symptoms and treatment side effects or complications.
Supports psychotropic medication management prescribed by PCPs.
Provide brief interventions using evidenced based techniques such as Behavioral Activation, Problem-Solving Treatment, Motivational Interviewing or other appropriate treatment modalities.
Provide accurate information to patients, physicians, staff and community as requested in a timely fashion.
Take responsibility for personal professional development to maintain and increase competency and support the education of patients and staff:
Maintain licensure/registration/certification
Participate in ongoing education relevant to role
Provide guidance to staff for dealing with difficult patient situations when appropriate
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
Collect and report statistics as requested.
Demonstrate awareness of the importance of cost containment for the department.
Provide suggestions regarding performance improvement opportunities to BHIP Psychiatrist and Psychiatry and Counseling Manager.
Attends meetings as assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
