Foundation Communities (FC) is a local, homegrown nonprofit. Founded in 1990, we provide affordable, attractive homes and free on-site support services for thousands of families, veterans, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. We offer an innovative, proven model that empowers our residents and neighbors to achieve educational success, financial stability, and healthier lifestyles. We own and operate 26 communities all over Austin and in North Texas. In addition to housing and on-site support, FC also owns and operates two Prosper Centers in Austin where the community at-large can access Tax Help, Health Coverage, College Hub and Financial Wellness programs.

Position Description: This is a project-based position through December 2023, with the option to extend depending on funding. The Benefits Enrollment Program Specialist provides one-on-one state benefits enrollment support through YourTexasBenefits.com.

Primary Duties/ Responsibilities

• With an empathetic and trauma-informed approach, help clients enroll in state benefits and utilize their benefits to access food and receive healthcare
• Establish and maintain relevant certifications (including Navigator certification through the Texas Health and Human Services’ Community Partner Program, as well as Community Health Worker certification and Navigator certification through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) and increase expertise in the local food security and health coverage system
• Use expertise gained to help clients navigate food access and healthcare
• Collect and enter data in an accurate and timely manner
• Conduct community outreach to increase awareness of and referrals to the Benefits Enrollment program. Outreach activities may include distributing outreach materials, giving community presentations and attending food distribution events.
• Collect client stories as needed

Minimum Requirements

• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to provide empathetic and trauma-informed services
• Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish
• Detail-oriented
• Proficiency using standard office computer programs and databases
• Ability to work on a team while handling individual day-to-day responsibilities independently

Preferred Requirements

• Healthcare, food access and/or case management knowledge

Working Conditions

General office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. The working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Physical Requirements

General office-based demands including remaining in the seated position with occasional standing and walking. Travel between locations.

Compensation: $22/hr
