Ballard Spahr LLP, a national law firm with more than 600 attorneys in 15 offices has an immediate opening for a Billing Specialist to join our Accounting and Financial Management Department. The Billing Specialist will be responsible for monthly client billing, ebilling, timely ebilling appeals, accruals, reporting, task code set up, internal write off approvals and month-end duties as needed.
Most important to this position is a client value orientation geared toward improving our clients’ billing experience. Regular duties will include Client Outside Counsel Guideline review, on-boarding client ebilling arrangements toward 100% compliance with established Alternative Fee Agreements (AFAs), including exception rate structures. The ability to assist with handling multiple projects with co-existing deadlines is required.
The Billing Specialist will also assist in recruiting new lawyers into the program and assisting with their transition to the program. They will need to be able to work with the client accounting system, as well as other applications that are used to process bills. This position can be full-time remote, (Monday – Friday) if located in Arizona, Delaware, District of Columbia, Georgia, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Nevada, Pennsylvania, South Dakota or Utah.
Required Skills
The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; must be able communicate professionally and courteously with attorneys, staff, vendors, and clients of the Firm while observing confidentiality of client and firm matters. Must be detail-oriented with good analytical and problem-solving skills and able to handle multiple demands, prioritize tasks and the pressure of meeting deadlines.
Required Experience
Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 2 years' experience in high volume time and billing in a professional services environment or a combination of education and experience. Excellent math aptitude and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access and Word, and comfortable with systems in general is required. Familiarity with Elite 3E is a plus, although not required; previous experience in a legal environment is preferred. Able to work overtime as needed to perform the essential functions of this position.
