The Grand Isle Supervisory Union and its member districts of Alburgh, South Hero, and the Champlain Islands Unified Union School Districts are seeking full time, building based substitutes for the 2022-2023 school year. This is an ESSER-funded position specifically created to support school-based staff shortages. This is a full time position that offers a regular schedule (not on-call) and benefits. The GISU and its member districts work to ensure all members of the GISU learning community are curious, creative, courageous, and capable of pursuing their aspirations in a diverse and ever-changing world.

The GISU Schools specialize in educating grades K-6/K-8. We are proud that our schools maintain impassioned faculty, personalized beliefs about success, and a caring, safe school culture. Yet, even the most dedicated teachers and staff need a sick day. When a planned or unplanned absence keeps our staff away from the classroom, a substitute teacher is there to fill in.

A building based substitute is an integral part of the school community and will fill a variety of roles within the school building to provide coverage for planned and unplanned absences. In this position, you will fill in for full-time teachers in their absence, carrying out their lesson plans and ensuring students have a fulfilling classroom experience.

You may also be asked to support the school community in regular support areas on days/times you are not subbing, for example covering duties like recess or lunch supervision. The ideal candidates will have prior substitute-teaching experience and the ability to lead the class in an orderly fashion. Building based subs do not require a teaching certification.
