Building Engineer

Position Overview:

The Building Engineer reports to the Director of Administration and Operations. The Building Engineer oversees day-to-day operations of building maintenance to ensure all building mechanical systems are operational, maintained and in compliance with all regulatory guidelines/standards. The Building
Engineer ensures that emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly. This individual works directly with the Facility Manager and other outside vendors to schedule and facilitate required repairs, and renovations. The Building Engineer ensures the facility is maintained according to agency policy and procedures, fostering a safe, productive and comfortable environment for Greater West Town
Community Development Project personnel, clients, students, and guests.

Position Responsibilities:

General Preventative Maintenance & Repairs:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all electrical, fire protection, air conditioning/heating

(HVAC), plumbing system and other essential facilities systems and equipment.

  • Maintain accurate records of the condition of the equipment and other systems in the building via the computerized facility maintenance and management system.
  • Effectively manage the preventive maintenance program to detect problems as early as possible, ensure safety and reliability
  • Meet or exceed the organization goals for both corrective and preventive maintenance work order completion.
  • Initiate interventions to solve problems.
  • Develop a system for repair and maintenance of all facility equipment and systems.

Inspections/Facility Safety & Compliance:

  • Develop back-up or alternative systems for common problems such as power shortage.
  • Ensure the safety of the building from fire, flood, and other hazards, serve as the building safety officer.
  • Maintain existing safety protocols and create new protocols as needed.
  • Facilitate standard building inspections and ensure any sited deficiencies are addressed.
  • Respond to building emergencies to ensure the safety of staff, participants and building.

Vendor/Contract & Construction Management:

  • Manage and coordinate all outside vendors and contractors performing work in the building.
  • Ensure vendor agreements are adhered to and all agreed upon work is completed in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate coordination of capital improvement projects with internal staff and external contractors and vendors.

Administrative:

  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with immediate/upper management on work issues and projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, graduate degree preferred plus 6+ years related experience.
  • Certifications in HVAC, plumbing and electrical preferred.
  • A strong commitment to community service, and familiarity with green facilities.
  • Extensive experience in building maintenance.

Dropout Crisis and reclaim some of our community’s most at-risk youth. GWTP Youth programs help young people earn their high school diploma, continue to post-secondary education and/or advanced technical training opportunities, and find permanent career-path employment.
