The City of Surprise Community Development Department seeks a highly motivated, solutions-oriented Building Inspector I to join its team in conducting residential inspections. Building Inspectors work collaboratively with other city departments, residents, and the development community to ensure that the City of Surprise grows safely and efficiently for the benefit of its residents and businesses. A successful candidate will be organized, able to effectively handle multiple priorities in a field and office setting, a team player, and committed to providing excellent customer service. SUMMARY

This is the first level of inspections work. Incumbents inspect, approve, or reject all phases of public and private construction and improvements to ensure compliance with plans, standards, specifications, codes and regulations, permits, and any special requirements. Assignments involve inspection of new residential and commercial construction, alteration and repair work. Incumbents work independently in the field and are responsible for making decisions requiring technical discretion, sound judgment, and familiarity with the City's adopted building codes. Incumbents recommend issuance of correction notices or approvals as appropriate and compile reports, maintain logs, records, perform related activities, and provide direction to design professionals, contractors and property owners.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or G.E.D., and two years experience in construction, building inspection or building trades. Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have at the time of hire and be able to maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
