SUMMARY
The Snow Plow Operator operates and maintains equipment used to clear roadways and areas after a snowfall.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(include the following, other duties may be assigned)

  • Operates snowplow and sanding/salting truck to remove ice and snow from roads and assigned areas, which require early morning starts, extended hours, and weekend duty including holidays.
  • Shovel snow, mowing, grounds maintenance and other duties as assigned related to facilities and roads maintenance.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance/repair tasks such as changing vehicle fluids, fueling, greasing, painting, etc.
  • Inspects equipment on regularly scheduled basis. Complies with safety precautions.
  • Follows all safety rules, policies, and regulations. Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned, which could be directly related, or un-related to original position.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must hold a valid State of Vermont Driver's License and be eligible for enrollment as a driver on Burke Mountain Resort Commercial Automobile policy.


OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

Interpersonal and interdepartmental communications and collaboration is a must. Candidates must be able to effectively and professionally communicate with guests when approached.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly working near moving or mechanical parts and exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.s


RESORT CONDITIONS

This is a mountainous Resort Area. It requires that work venues are varied, and in many cases include steep stairways, multi-level buildings and outdoor work areas, subject to very cold, sometimes wet or very sunny work sites. Proper footwear is a must, indoors and out. Work days and hours, as well as the number of hours required will vary, with an emphasis on weekends and holidays.
