Provide technical expertise and assistance to minority business enterprises with the goal of helping them to grow their businesses.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Recruit minority clients to the MBC.
- Develop ongoing, working relationships for the purpose of helping their businesses grow.
- Consult and provide analysis of customer needs in services such as access to capital, procurement, and partnership opportunities.
- Conduct and provide market research as to national contract opportunities and present them to clients.
- Plan and conduct individual meetings with business owners for opportunity discovery and potential needs for assisting client procure additional business.
- Educate clients about programs such as grants, lending programs, educational seminars, international expansion opportunities, government contract bidding process.
- Deliver action plans to assist clients in applying for contracts and bid match opportunities.
- Complete interview and intake process and client tracking through the required Salesforce CRM system.
- Maintain a database of clients and resources within the CRM software.
- Input all data into CRM related to client meetings and impact such as job and revenue growth. Track and manage activity through reports related to grant deliverables.
- Attend outreach events to expand resource and client networks as a pipeline to the MBC.
- Support the department team through outreach and recruitment, attending events, business strategy, marketing, presentations, meeting attendance, and program management.
- Attend MBDA national training calls and conferences.
- Maintain awareness of local and national resources to present to clients.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Represent the MBC at meetings, events, summits, conferences.
- Support the Director and staff with reporting requirements, budget requests, fundraising and program expansion.
- Assist new staff members with training and development.
- Assist with opportunities to expand programming through grant preparation, private sponsors, development activities.
- Support the college mission, vision and values through community engagement activities.
- Provide business services such as development of marketing, strategic plans, and proposal support for clients.
- Facilitate meetings for clients with outside resources and partners.
- Conduct research on business opportunities within Utah and the intermountain region.
- Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required; concentration in business related area preferred.
Minimum five (5) years direct experience in the following areas:
- Demonstrated experience in small business ownership, or executive-level engagement in a small business.
- Demonstrated experience in understanding functional areas of business operations, including small business finance, access to capital, procurement process, and capacity-building activities.
- Advanced degree in business administration or related area.
- Experience as a business advisor, consultant, coach or mentor.
- Knowledge and understanding of federal or state grants.
- Strong community connections within diverse communities.
- Work in DEI or ethnic community business initiatives.
- Ability to recruit new businesses to the program by engaging in community events and recruitment opportunities through education and outreach.
- Ability to deliver and/or support the program services and fulfill the work requirements of the MBDA, including assisting MBEs (minority business enterprises) to grow their businesses in at least some of these ways: securing contracts, securing financing, creating marketing plans, developing strategic plans, job creation, penetrating global markets, achieving size and scale, advocating for minority businesses, and referrals for services.
- Knowledge of the minority business sector and strategies for enhancing its growth and expansion, including marketing to minority support organizations, chambers, etc. to attract appropriate clients.
- Ability to analyze the needs of an MBE and strategize to assist the organization to set and achieve growth goals.
- Experience in delivering business consulting services, achieving successful client outcomes and excellent customer satisfaction results. Inherent in this are skills needed to assure that operational quality standards are met.
- Experience in establishing and maintaining a network of strategic partners used to assist clients with securing contracts, securing financing, job creation, penetrating global markets, achieving size and scale, and advocating for successful client outcomes. This includes the ability to promote and generate the value of services offered to the clients and generate program income for the center.
- Ability to effectively utilize required MBDA information and reporting systems. This includes the skills needed to track service delivery on a consistent and regular basis and to collect quantitative and qualitative performance data.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
- Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
