JOB TITLE: Business Service Representative

DIVISION: Adult Services

DEPARTMENT: Detroit at Work Career Center

LOCATION: NWAC

REPORTS TO: Career Center Services Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Regular

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting the Talent Sourcing team and assisting with employer outreach to promote Career Center services and create job opportunities and job placements for customers and participants.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for supporting the coordination of employer events at the Career Center.
  • Assists with the promotion of the Center services to local employers in need of hiring qualified employees.
  • Serves as the liaison between Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development (MOWD) and Detroit Employment Solutions Corporation’s Business Services Unit and the SERCO operated Career Center.
  • Initiates and maintains ongoing personal contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives, job placement/training agencies, and Veterans associations to promote programs for participant placements.
  • Makes cold calls to employers to recruit their participation, conduct presentation promoting employer services; explains the benefits and employment services provided to employers.
  • Consults with area chambers of commerce, higher education institutions, and all local employers regarding economic and employment trends.
  • Develops and maintains a positive relationship with employer and community partners, as well as civic groups.
  • Works closely with the Career Center’s Talent Sourcing Specialists to ensure the needs of the employer are met.
  • Understands current employment trends and adapts to changing markets.
  • Monitors job bank database information to ensure that employment opportunities are available for job-ready customers.
  • Compiles reports that track activities, outcomes and intervention plans.
  • Attends meetings as required by SERCO, the training institution and/or other agencies to address participant concerns as needed.
  • Contributes to the team effort by performing other related work as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Business Management, Public Administration, Economics, Communications, Social Science, or related field preferred from a recognized 4-year college or university.
  • Four years full-time equivalent work experience in customer job placement or job search services in the public or private sector.
  • Strong skills in sales and networking, industry knowledge, and previous experience recruiting employers, and established employer relationships
  • Working knowledge of workforce service programs, including WIOA, TANF, and FAE&T preferred
  • Training in personnel management is an asset.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time, and meet goals in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet search engines, Outlook/Exchange, computer reporting and other software/database programs used by Career Centers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bilingual Skills (Spanish and/or Arabic) preferred.
  • Must possess and provide a valid Michigan Driver's License. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and have access to reliable transportation to commute to employer and Detroit at Work Career Center locations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear. Some filing is required which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. - The noise level in the work environment is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photo copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
