Job Title: Business Specialist (Goodwill Houston Connect for Housing)
Department: Workforce Development (WFD)
Reports to: Program Coordinator, Goodwill Houston Connect for Housing
FLSA Status: Exempt-Full Time (Grant Funded – 1 year)
Salary: $36,000 - $40,000
Job Summary:
The Business Service Specialist is responsible for providing services to the Greater Houston area businesses and industries including talent development, on-the-job training, apprenticeships, outplacement services and other business solutions, in addition to supporting the Goodwill Houston Connect for Housing team with developing, locating and securing job openings for workforce members. Targeted focus in the following designated counties: Harris, Montgomery, Galveston, Fort Bend and Brazoria.
It is important that this individual exercise good judgement and due diligence with care when performing duties and communicating on behalf of Goodwill Houston. This position is responsible for and must assure that the Workforce Development Department is in total compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Market/promote business solutions developed and administered through Job Connection Services and third-party agreements by meeting with businesses/employers and other organizations.
  • Support the Program Coordinator for Goodwill Houston Connect for Housing with outreach activities necessary to promote and explain Goodwill Houston’s business service solutions.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to Goodwill Houston Connect for Housing and workforce development team regarding local business needs.
  • Promote and secure contractual agreements for Mercer Outplacement Services, Veryable and Skilling America usage, and other acquired partnership tools and services.
  • Promote and increase employer engagement in work experience, on the job training and apprenticeship programs.
  • Represents Goodwill Houston at business and or industry association events.
  • Develop relationships with prospective employers and obtain commitment to hire Goodwill Houston Connect for Housing workforce members.
  • Create and maintain electronic records of contacts and outcomes with employers.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.
  • Travel to multiple sites and locations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred; Associate degree considered.
  • Knowledge of regional business community and practices; previous experience as a business services professional, job developer, staffing or recruiter is preferred.
  • Sales account, staffing or job development experience is highly preferred to develop, maintain, and build relationships to meet program and revenue goals.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Ability to navigate Zoom and Microsoft Teams a plus. Experience with a CRM is another plus.
  • Resourceful, detail oriented, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Team building and partnership development experience
  • Ability to analyze problems and opportunities, identify and evaluate alternatives, and develop sound, effective approaches to address those issues.
  • Ability to plan, implement and evaluate the achievement of goals, objectives and work-plans.
  • Ability to coordinate, motivate and work well with others; experience in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a working knowledge of grammar usage, letter writing skills and proofreading.
  • Must be able to set goals and complete duties and assignments under strict deadlines
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Enthusiasm for organization’s mission.
  • Must be able to work independently and within a larger team.
  • Must have good driving record and proof of liability insurance.

Critical Performance Factors:
  • Identify viable business contacts to provide solutions related to talent acquisition, talent management and talent transition
  • Meet or exceed established outputs, outcomes, and goals for the (calendar/fiscal) year.
  • Ensure 90 Goodwill Houston Connect for Housing workforce members are placed at the end of the program year.
  • Execution of WFD projects as assigned
