Salary: $61,584 per year; $5,132 per month, BC-09, BU:01

At Hilo Medical Center, a nationally-recognized "Top Performing" hospital, the Carpenter I is a valuable member of our team. This position performs highly skilled tasks in carpentry, works in the construction alteration repair of wooden articles or structures, performs journeyman level carpentry work in buildings, renovations, repairing and maintaining of structures through the facility. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

Education: None required. High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Completion of an approved carpentry apprenticeship program is preferred.

Experience and Training: Four (4) years of work experience in performing a variety of rough and finished carpentry work; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Knowledge Of: Practices and methods in the carpentry trade, including safety procedures; the tools, equipment and materials used in the carpentry trade.

Ability To: Use the hand and power tools common to the carpentry trade; read and interpret blueprints and sketches; recognize hazards typical of the work; estimate time and materials needed to complete a job; understand and follow oral and written instructions; perform heavy lifting, moving and other manual work typical of the class

Must be available to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as necessary, based on hospital operations (services are provided 24/7).

MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENT: Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment physical examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen. The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening, shall be borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
