Located in the Pine Hills community of Albany NY, RISSE provides comprehensive, year-round English Language and support services to the refugee and immigrant community. RISSE operates Youth Programs, Adult English Literacy/Language Program, civics classes, life skills orientation, job search assistance, and more. Our mission is to equip refugees and recent immigrants to build sustainable, independent lives by offering language and literacy instruction and support with life skills and integration into the United State culture and community.

Position Description: Bi-lingual Case Manager (Full-time)

The Case Manager will work in conjunction with the Family Services Team to welcome and support newly arrived refugees and immigrants resettling in New York’s Capital Region. They will assess family and individual needs through a comprehensive intake process, coordinate access to social services to address those needs, and offer general assistance to improve quality of life, self-sufficiency, and integration into the local community. The Case Manager may work on a wide variety of issues, including food stamp applications, temporary assistance, access to medical care, child care placements, transportation, housing assistance, job searches, and acting as an advocate or liaison with other agencies. They will maintain detailed case files and program records, ensuring confidentiality of client information, compliance with program requirements, and timely delivery of services.

Reports to: The Director of Family Services, who will at least annually evaluate the candidate’s performance on the basis of the elements of this job description and the personnel policies of RISSE.

Qualifications: The Case Manager must have: at least the equivalent of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a related field, or a combination of equivalent education and experience; a working knowledge of social services and community resources; ability to communicate with limited English-speaking clients; strong multitasking and time management skills; ability and willingness to work flexible hours; an understanding of social work professional and ethical standards; a valid driver’s license; and fluency in Spanish.

Preferred qualifications: at least one year’s experience working with refugee families and immigrant integration programs; strong administrative and interpersonal skills; experience with computer applications and databases; experience in human services and/or refugee resettlement and/or immigrant integration programs; commitment to RISSE’s mission and values.

Hours and Schedule: 37.5 hours per week, twelve months per year; non-exempt.

Illustration of Duties:

  • Coordination of Support Services: Assess and screen clients of each RISSE program for case management needs; triage client needs through a comprehensive intake process; create initial service plan for clients and assign to the appropriate RISSE staff member; ensure that the service plan is followed and updated regularly; provide support and care that is safe, timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and client-centered.
  • Service Provision: Connect clients on caseload to appropriate community agencies to address quality of life needs; identify assistance programs, both public and private for which refugee families may be eligible; identify ways RISSE can assist these families to become self-sufficient; outreach to employers for job opportunities for clients; and work with students in job training and the job application process.
  • Case File Management: Identify and qualify clients and families for programs and maintain case files; maintain systems to track and organize cases for RISSE’s service oriented programs; input and update service plans in the database.
  • Client Advocacy: Assist clients and families with navigating DSS, school and other systems to connect them with educational programming, medical care & support services; secures translators/interpreters to assist clients having difficulty accessing community services; ensure clients are being served in a linguistically and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Community Engagement & Coordination: Develop relationships with community service providers to facilitate client access to services; coordinate with outside agencies to support RISSE clients and programs; attend stakeholder meetings to stay up-to-date on available services and supports; represent RISSE in the community, especially with the target populations.
  • Supervision: Supervise volunteers supporting families through case management and family helper functions.
  • Compliance: Assist RISSE leadership in ensuring the integrity, quality, and compliance of all RISSE’s service oriented programs and all applicable regulations. Ensure volunteers adhere to these standards.
  • Training: Maintain necessary training and certifications; attend trainings upon request of the supervisor; ensure volunteers are properly trained and training records are maintained.

Compensation: This is a non-exempt, hourly position. Compensation is based upon qualifications and experience. This position is grant funded and will continue as long as funds allow.

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
