Position Overview

Family Support specialized Caseworker in Children Services works within the framework of direct services, is involved in the delivery of supportive services within a specialized service team. For the most part, these services will be delivered in the home of the targeted families in a team approach. Under Unit supervision and in conjunction with a team approach, facilitate the delivery of intensive in-home services.

Summary of Job Duties

Assists families, especially to identify, access, and secure resources to assure quick response to needs identified by the team. Provides intense services for families with children at risk of placement including but not limited to: Assisting with family's development of chore schedule to assure minimum standards of cleanliness of home and children. Assisting with social issues such as children's educational and/or day care needs. Assisting with budget development and other home management skills to manage financial resources. Modeling non-physical discipline and child management techniques and coaching appropriate parenting skills. Assists and supports development of family independence by advocating within the social service system for ongoing supports such as parenting, counseling, recreation, etc. Coordinates resources to support economic improvement such as food, shelter, clothing, furnishings, utilities and income supports.

Assists children with initial and re-placement transition including, but not limited to: Securing relevant child records and completing placement packets. Gathering necessary supplies including clothing vouchers. Enrolling children in schools. Arranging and supervising initial parent-child visit as appropriate. Arranges or provides transportation services to families as directed. Obtains client records (medical, school, police reports/checks, etc.) when appropriate.

Attends scheduled activities including meetings, conferences, trainings, etc. Maintains unit records in compliance with current rules and unit standards. Assists with other case related tasks as assigned. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Associate's degree in Human Services field -OR- One year of undergraduate training in a Human Services related area plus two (2) years Human Service agency experience in which the above knowledge and skills were demonstrated -OR- High School diploma or equivalent plus five (5) years Human Services agency experience in which the above knowledge and skills were demonstrated.
Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and proof of valid auto insurance.


Supplemental Information

All applicants who are extended a conditional offer of employment will be required to take and to successfully complete a screening for substance abuse before beginning work.

Part-time Employees (Non-Benefits Eligible) (20 hours or less per week): Benefits include Long Term Sick Leave Accrual, Paid Personal Leave, and holiday pay for hours scheduled to work on holidays.

Seasonal Employees: Benefits include Sick Leave accrued at 4.6 hours for every eighty 80 hours in active
pay status. Seasonal employees scheduled to work 40 hours during their period of employment will accrue vacation in the same manner as regular full-time employees and can use their vacation after completion of twenty-six (26) bi-weekly pay periods in active pay status. Part-time Seasonal employees (scheduled to work less than 40 hours) do not accrue vacation.

Intermittent and Temporary Employees: Long-Term Sick Leave accrual is based on hours worked.
