As the Orthopedic Cast Tech in our Outpatient Clinic you'll provide assistance to patients and physicians by monitoring patient flow, rooming, cast application and removal, setting up and removal of traction, suture removal, pin extraction, adjustment of braces and external fixation devices, measuring and application of brace devices.

At Presbyterian Espanola Hospital, you'll join a supportive, dynamic, proactive, and collaborative team that includes surgical techs, nurses and physicians in the beautiful northern New Mexico location of Espanola Valley. Just north of Santa Fe, Espanola is nestled between the Jemez and Sangre de Cristo mountain ranges and the meeting points of three rivers; the Rio Grande, the Rio Chama and the Rio Santa Cruz.

Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalecy Diploma (GED); AND, specialized, short-term training in clinical medical skills
  • Certified Orthopedic Technician designation; OR, Certified Orthopedic Allied Professional designation
  • CPR certification.
  • One (1) year experience in ambulatory care.

Responsibilities:
Completes patient documentation and forms on medical record within scope of practice. Assists with scheduling. Answers patient and family questions. Interacts effectively with patients, providing instructions and information.

Assists with patient preparation and rooming patients. Provides Orthopedic therapies ordered by physician:
  • Cast application and removal
  • Set up and removal of traction
  • Suture removal & pin extraction
  • Adjusts braces and external fixation devices
  • Measures and applies brace devices (knee, elbow, ankle, Pavlik Harness, Bebax shoes)
  • Wound cleansing and dressing application
  • Sets up, prepares and assistance in joint aspirations or joint injections
  • Collects and processes specimens
  • Requests and obtains x-rays and lab reports for physician review
  • education of home bound patients with instructions on dressing changes, exercise and crutch or walker training; both written and verbal, as appropriate; and other education as ordered by the physician
Maintains established practice policies and procedures, objectives, quality program, safety, environment and infection control standards. Maintains supplies and patient equipment and storage of supplies and cleaning instruments; orders orthopaedic supplies, braces, dressings and cast material; keeps patient rooms stocked.

Communicates and cooperates with Medical Provider and team.
