CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION COORDINATOR

*Position is Contingent upon Contract Award
PART-TIME
Location: West Point, NY (ARMY)

Education and Experience Requirement:

  • Demonstrate a familiarity with and a commitment to support the Catholic Faith and practice as articulated by the documents of The Second Vatican Council and the subsequent statements of the American Conference of Catholic Bishops.
  • Experience in teaching.
  • Have excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Possess basic word-processing skills.
  • Experience working in a military environment is preferred.
  • Contractor personnel shall behave in a professional manner befitting US military religious support activities.
  • Shall demonstrate dignity and respect, keeping in harmony with the values and norms of the Army Chaplain Corps.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with the Catholic Chaplain and DRE to assist with the implementation of RE programs, goals, policies, and procedures for all USAG West Point Community programs for children and adults. These programs include:
  • Catechist training
  • Sacramental program (First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation)
  • Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
  • Parent and teacher training
  • Seasonal programs (Christmas Pageant, Stations of the Cross, Vacation Bible School).
  • Assist with the Development of the annual RE Calendar of events and CTOF budget to be presented for Chaplain approval at the July Pastoral Council meeting.
  • Perform administrative tasks necessary to begin program in September (Reserve facilities, recruit teachers, publicize, etc.)
  • Assist a minimum of 2 Teacher Training sessions coordinated with Catholic Chaplain and/or DRE to inaugurate the school year and 1 Teacher Training session per quarter.
  • Initiates RE facilities and CTOF requests in accordance with local policy. Submit all facility, funds, and material requests to the Catholic Chaplain for approval, coordination, and processing.
  • Attends weekly meetings with the Catholic Chaplain and Chapel Staff
  • Attends the Pastoral Council meetings (as a nonvoting member).
  • Be familiar with appropriate RE Coordinator resources such as books, references materials, resource videos, magazines, and crafts.
  • Inventory stocks and maintains all RE Coordinator materials.
  • Submit requests for curriculum and supplies for succeeding quarters.
  • Track monthly attendance using spreadsheets and submit to Catholic Priest and/or DRE.
  • Provide metrics to Chapel staff as needed.
  • Assist in the Planning and coordination of volunteer dedication and recognition programs.
  • Obtain consent information necessary to conduct background investigations from all volunteers who have direct contact with children under the age of 18 years.
  • Ensure all RE Coordinator programs and activities are properly monitored.
  • Monitor all programs and be able to address any behavioral problems professionally.

Hours and Performance:

  • Workdays and hours may vary according to the approved Calendar of Events, tasks, and the time of meetings. Many of the tasks will require holiday, evening, and weekend hours.
