Summary
Mary Free Bed is looking for a contract certified coder to assist with various projects for a period of 3-4 months. This person will work closely with Revenue Cycle team members to complete tasks as assigned by the Revenue Cycle manager.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Adherence to coding guidelines and policy.
- Performs data quality reviews on records to validate CPT and ICD-10 codes assignment.
- Utilizes coding principles to assign appropriate ICD-10-CM/CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures.
- Analyze records for completeness and appropriate code justification, if unable to validate, persist in additional research and follow up for analysis and final adjudication.
- Query provider (physician or other qualified healthcare practitioner) for clarification and additional documentation prior to code assignment when there is conflicting, incomplete, or ambiguous information in the health record.
- Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and/or The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), and adheres to official coding guidelines.

Essential Job Qualifications
- Associates degree or equivalent training required through, at least, five (5) years of progressive on-the-job experience.
- Any one of the following certifications: CPC, CCS, COC, CIC.
- Advanced understanding of anatomy & physiology, medical terminology, and record documentation requirements.
- Strong and effective interpersonal skills, including oral and written.
- Time management skills to handle multiple, competing demands and priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Quick learning style with the ability to ask discerning questions.
- Sense of urgency and ability to quickly adapt to changes in priorities.
- Collaborative team style and open communication.
- Self-directing organized and can reason objectively.
- Must be able to work independently as well as in a group functioning in a multi-task environment.
- Excellent analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to organizational mission with a “whatever it takes” attitude to get the job done.

- Information-management skills and ability to interpret, communicate, and present data.
