JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant must be committed to Foremost Family Health Center’s Mission, Vision and Values of caring for and providing high quality comprehensive services to the community while driving a culture of engagement and collaboration. Medical assistants are essential members of the Patient-Centered Medical Home team.

They are responsible for performing physician support services and may work in a clerical, administrative, or clinical capacity. Medical assistants are instrumental in helping patients feel at ease during their visits to FFHC.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Asthma Breathing Machine (Nebulizer)

· Management of Patient Requests & Complaints

· Blood Sample Collection (Phlebotomy)

· (must know how to do kids-heal stick, fingerstick, venipuncture)

· Medical Charting

· Blood Sample Collection (Phlebotomy)

· (must know how to do adults – venipuncture butterfly, syringe, vacutainer, fingerstick)

· Patient Appointment Scheduling and Appointment Reminders

· Body Fluid Sample Collection

· (must know how to do urine, hemocult, pap slide)

· Patient Education

· Chart Organization, Retrieval, Filing

· Pediatric plotting

· Crash Cart

· Phone Calls, Customer Service

· Ear Irrigation (must know how to perform all types-bulb, syringe, waterpik, machine)

· Preparation of patient for medical exam; including providing the patient with appropriate gown and sheets to allow examination.

· EKG (ECG)

· Referrals

· Hearing Screen

· Vision Screen

· Injections, including child and adult immunizations

· Vital Signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pain levels)

· Inventory of Medications

· Data Entry & Reporting

· Patient Assessments; completion of medication lists, problem lists; known allergies

· Patient / Family History

· Coordinating referrals for in-house services and off-site specialty, diagnostic, emergency and hospital care.

· Patient follow-up

· Assist providers with patient procedures.

· OSHA and Environment of Care procedures

· Stocking and cleaning of patient rooms.

· Outreach

· Sample medication management.

· Patient Emergency Response

· Removing sutures; Changing wound dressings.

· Use of T-System documents as one of the primary source documents of recording patient information during visits.

· Assist provider with preparation of any instruments / supplies for patient exams.

· Follow provider patient-specific orders.

· Participate in a team based model of care that promotes coordination of care for our patients. Care is patient-centered and follows evidence-based guidelines.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Previous experience in operation of office machinery: Personal Computer, copier, FAX, postage machine, printers, phone switchboards and other auxiliary computer equipment.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

· Certification as Medical Assistant

Certification in Phlebotomy

Read/Write/Speak English, high school level or above mathematical skills.

CPR Certificate, ACLS or BLS Certificate

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, initiatives, and projects. Proofread documents. Maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Mental demands include the ability to learn, adapt to changes, and become proficient quickly, pay close attention to details, courteous and professional demeanor, ability to deal with stress of meeting deadlines and adhere to company policies and procedures.
