Position Purpose:
Under the guidance of the Nurse and working within the scope of standard practices approved by the State of Kentucky, the primary purpose of the Certified Medical Technician is to provide medication administration and support to the neighborhood residents in accordance with ERS’s established policies, person-centered care principles, procedures and neighborhood standards to ensure the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. Supports all aspects of the household environment and facilitating all planned and spontaneous needs and activities.
Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
- Administers medications in accordance with establish policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Follows policies and procedures of pharmacy related to acceptable storage of medications, i.e., medications administered by different routes are stored separately.
- Documents medication administration immediately following administration utilizing the community's established documentation system.
- Promptly reports medication errors and refusal of resident to comply with medication administration to Neighborhood Nurse on duty.
- Fulfills responsibilities as a Versatile Worker within the neighborhood in accordance with the Versatile Worker job description. *Please note that a Versatile Workers provides resident care, housekeeping, life enrichment, and dining support and assistance to our residents.
- Ensures that the household coordinator is notified of family and/or resident concerns, malfunctioning equipment, material shortages, and other pertinent observations and that the household is kept free of hazardous objects and conditions. Assures that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times. Takes ownership to ensure that hazardous or unsafe conditions are corrected.
- Regularly elicits residents’ preferences in choices of foods, menus, recipes and presentation, and ensures all needed ingredients are in the household in time for meal preparation. Assists in taking inventory, storing and ordering household grocery supplies based on individual resident preferred foods.
- Completes any other responsibilities within the household that may become necessary/appropriate to assure that the household is maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable manner.
- Attends and participates in continuing education programs designed to keep current with changes in the certified medication administration aide profession, as well as to maintain certification in an active status.
- Ability to work in an environment which may contain communicable disease or viruses. These may include, but not limited to; Hepatitis B, Influenza, viral pneumonia, skin rashes, airborne viruses, contact bacteria, etc., and body fluids carrying communicable diseases, including HIV. Employee is responsible for learning and using proper infection control techniques and reporting.
- Attends to all resident personal care needs, including but not limited to, grooming, hygiene, dining and nutritional, mobility, toileting, psychosocial and safety needs. Organizes all supplies necessary to complete the tasks. Supports residents in self-care and provides care as necessary for those unable to care for their own needs.
- Regularly checks and provides appropriate care and stimulation to residents needing specialized attention, including observation of the skin and provision of care related to the prevention of skin breakdown. Immediately reports any changes to the household nurse.
- Responds to residents’ requests, including call lights/pendants, silent alarms, in a timely manner.
- Plans, develops, implements and evaluates the activity/recreation programs of the household.
- Communicates with staff and persons served by reading and responding promptly to e-mail, text and phone messages on a daily basis.
- Organizes and implements individualized and group programs and encourages residents to pursue their interests by providing materials as needed and in keeping with the household budget.
- With transportation provided, accompany and assists residents to the activities outside the household and to assist residents to activities inside the household.
- Maintains and grows resident functional abilities at/to optimum level by using the restorative devices and programs as ordered and as directed by the Director of Nursing.
- Assists resident in carrying out their restorative program(s), which may include but is not limited to, ambulation, transfers, bed mobility, ADL’s, ROM, splints, dining restorative program, and bowel and bladder restorative program. Maintains the resident’s dignity while providing services and communicates immediately to the household nurse a resident’s complaint of pain during their restorative program.
- Reads, understands, implements and evaluates the resident’s Restorative Plan of Care. Records delivery of restorative services in the RNA Practice module of the electronic medical record.
- Provides information regarding planned community and household opportunities, such as special dinners, holiday events, trips, etc., to residents, household staff, families and household extended families as appropriate.
- Using our computerized medical records systems, updates resident-related information regarding activities and daily care and completes other administrative responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner.
- Reads, understands, contributes to and implements the residents current individualized Plan of Care. Contributes to the development of the plan of care of residents by completing the Resident Preference form.

- Maintains confidentiality of a resident’s pertinent health information in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Certified as a medication tech (CMT) in the State of Kentucky, as well as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in Kentucky.
- Possess, as a minimum, a certificate from an accredited program and possess a current, unencumbered, active certificate to practice as a certified medication technician in the State of Kentucky.
- Able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language. Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
- Have the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to lift, push, pull or move 50 lbs. on a regular basis and 100 lbs. occasionally.
- Able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
- Fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 Vaccination.
Preferred:
Six months experience as a Resident Assistant
