ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Monroe Community Mental Health Authority is a community based mental health service organization dedicated to consumers living in Monroe County. We provide individual health services for people with any type of behavioral health concerns such as substance abuse, emotional issues, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our services are open to anyone in Monroe County who does not have insurance and cannot pay, or are insured by Medicaid, MIChild, or Health Plan of Michigan (HPM). Only those with Medicaid are guaranteed services.
Our mission is to enrich lives and promote wellness. We live out that mission by being an inviting resource that offers in-house, referral, and emergency services, as well as support within the community for those in need.
DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Program Supervisor, performs peer related functions and tasks that assist Monroe Community Mental Health Authority in providing comprehensive services to consumers in the designated program. Peer-delivered support services are programs and services that provide individuals with opportunities to learn and share coping skills and strategies, move into more active assistance and away from passive roles, and to build and/or enhance self-esteem and self-confidence. Peer specialist services provide individuals with opportunities to support, mentor and assist beneficiaries to achieve community inclusion, participation, independence, recovery, resiliency and/or productivity. Peers are individuals who have a unique background and skill level from their experience in utilizing services and supports to achieve their personal goals of community membership, independence and productivity. Peers have a special ability to gain trust and respect of other beneficiaries based on shared experience and perspectives with disabilities, and with planning and negotiating human services systems.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS REQUIREMENTS:
- Have a High School diploma or GED.
- Completion of or have the ability to complete the state approved training for Certified Peer Support Specialists.
- A self-identified current or former user of mental health or co-occurring services who can relate to others who are now using these services.
- A commitment to recovery, choice, empowerment, and the ability of people with serious mental illness and/or co-occurring disorders to find meaningful lives in the community.
- Ability to establish a trusting relationship with peers, including excellent interpersonal skills.
- Detail oriented with good writing and organizational abilities.
- Ability to network within the community and work with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid drivers license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, and community agencies
