GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Chief of Finance (COF) in the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office oversees the finance operations. This Office is one of several departments in the County of Wayne and receives funding from the County and governmental grants. It is a microcosm of a small city and handles all its financial activities: payment of vendors, depositing and reconciling deposits, reconciling the petty cash account, journal entries, etc. The Prosecutor has duties mandated by Michigan Laws, which includes, but is not limited to the pursuit of justice and fairness for the protection of the community and holding those who commit crime accountable. The Chief of Finance will report directly to the Prosecutor.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related major. Must have 5 years of experience in governmental accounting and be knowledgeable with governmental grants and their accounting procedures.

JOB DUTIES:

• Overseeing the daily operations of the finance department staff.
• Reviewing the entry of financial data for accuracy.
• Monitoring revenues and expenditures of approximately 34 grants and overseeing the required quarterly reporting.
• Preparing the annual budget in collaboration with the Managers/ Chiefs of the 7 divisions within the Prosecutor's Office. (There are approximately 300 staff members).
• Preparing financial reports,
• Supervising all accounting related activities.
• Overseeing and working with the Information Technology (IT) Department for the implementation of the financial system/ERP.

The COF will implement policy and procedures for internal operations; be accountable for any audits conducted by our grantors.

The COF must take and pass the Department of Justice Financial Grants Training.
