JOB SUMMARY:
Perform a variety of duties related to the day-to-day preparation and delivery of school food service to students and adults.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Possess or ability to obtain a Maricopa County Environmental Services Food Service Worker card within 30 days from hire.
- Have the ability to perform vigorous physical work and to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, school staff and students.
- Ability to be flexible.
Desirable:
- Have experience in institutional, restaurant or school kitchen environment.
- Have some knowledge of basic food safety and sanitation practices.
- Have some knowledge of food borne diseases.
- Ability to learn and understand the regulatory requirements of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position may change or evolve in the future and is not limited to the functions listed. Excellent employee attendance is critical to perform the essential functions.
- Be involved in the preparation and serving of food daily in the cafeteria, to include outside serving carts.
- Operate various types of commercial kitchen equipment such as mixers, slicers, choppers, steam tables, ovens, etc. as needed.
- Wash dishes, pots and pans, equipment, kitchen utensils, and work area cleanup.
- Set-up and cleanup food serving lines, food bars, etc.
- Excellent customer service.
- Conform to District, Food and Nutrition and Health Department policies.
Elementary POS operators and Secondary positions: In addition to above functions:
Handle money for purchase of food and beverage service and operate a register or computerized point of sale, to include associated paperwork.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- May transport food to another location and organize food distribution.
- May supervise employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
ALL APPLICANTS PLEASE NOTE: If offered a position with Food and Nutrition, the offer is conditional on the applicant being required to pass a timed agility test. This test includes basic mobility; bending, reaching arms overhead and out, rotation, squatting and kneeling, as well as lifting and carrying a 10lb weighted crate, pushing a cart with a 20lb weighted crate and lifting a 47lb weighted crate. Exact details of the test will be explained at the time of testing.
