Essential Functions
Administrative Duties

  • Follow policies and procedures of Goodman Community Center’s Childcare Program.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to state licensing regulations and City of Madison accreditation standards.
  • Relieve teachers for breaks and planning time according to set schedule and fill in as needed.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and quarterly childcare meetings.
  • Meet weekly with co-teachers to review plans for the following week and discuss additional classroom needs/concerns.
  • Execute lesson plans and ensure all materials needed are accounted for.
  • Respect confidentiality of GCC families and staff.
  • Attend continuing education training to complete required hours.
  • Keep accurate records of training and timesheet.
  • Check email at least 3 times each week and respond to requests in a timely manner.

Environment

  • Ensure a safe and welcoming environment and complete daily tasks assigned.
  • Assist with afternoon lesson planning, schedule implementation, supervision, and classroom management while supporting developmentally appropriate practices and program goals.
  • Provide a supportive environment in which children are encouraged to participate both as individuals as well as members of a classroom community.
  • Participate in regular cleaning of materials and classroom spaces.
  • Maintain classroom organization and rotate materials regularly.
  • Create a culturally inclusive classroom with activities that support diverse cultures and backgrounds.

Program for Children

  • Ensure all children in the program are tracked according to GCC expectations.
  • Provide activities and opportunities that allow children to learn through play encouraging curiosity, exploration, and problem solving in a mixed aged classroom setting.
  • Support children in their social-emotional development using multiple approaches including Conscious Discipline and positive guidance techniques.
  • Support physical activity and nutrition education efforts by assisting with SPARK physical education activities, creating nutrition and healthy eating opportunities, and ensure time is allowed for children to be active multiple times during the program day.
  • Assist with classroom transitions, while being flexible to unexpected changes in the program day.
  • Float to rooms, as needed, to ensure teacher to child ratios are maintained.

Parents

  • Build positive relationships with preschool families and encourage an open-door classroom experience for all.
  • Maintain daily, open communication with parents and utilize various approaches to ensure child achievements are regularly shared and celebrated.
  • Support program orientations, open houses, and family events as planned throughout the year.
  • Communicate child concerns and family needs to the preschool team.
  • Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned which are within this position's duties.

Requirements:Qualifications

  • 18+ years of age and High School Graduate.
  • Experience working in a preschool setting.
  • Qualified to be a Childcare Teacher (a minimum of 2 courses for credit in early childhood education or its equivalent or 2 non-credit approved courses in early childhood).
  • Required to pass Child Care Division Central Background Registry and GCC Background Check (National/County Criminal, Global Watchlist, SSN Trace, Sex Offender)
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report to be trained to drive a GCC van?
  • Understanding of, appreciation for, and experience with ability, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economically, ethnically, and culturally diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with State of WI Child Care Licensing Rules and Regulations and City of Madison Accreditation Guidelines.
  • Familiarity with Creative Curriculum and/or Conscious Discipline.
  • Experience working with staff and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
