Children’s Kiva Montessori (KM) School is a tuition-free, public Charter School serving children from Kindergarten through eighth grade. Classroom Assistants are entrusted with advancing the mission of the school through their support of the Lead Teacher in the development, implementation, and assessment of an authentic Montessori, standards-based curriculum. Classroom Assistants will support the establishment of a harmonious, productive classroom. As a standard-based institution, CKMS educators work together to develop curricula that advance student academic growth as established by the school and the Colorado Department of Education.
The Classroom Assistant joins a team of education leaders who are committed to cultivating an academically rigorous classroom where independence, creativity, responsibility, and respect are fostered. CKMS educators model positive interpersonal relationships with students, parents, staff and community members.
Education, Experience and Certification
- Minimum High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year of successful experience preferred in working in a school setting.
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn and practice Montessori Educational philosophy and methods. Prefer Montessori certifications from a Montessori Accreditation Committee for Teacher Education (MACTE) approved program (AMS, AMI, NCME, NAMTA etc.) preferred or completed during the first year of instruction.

Responsibilities
- Embody mission and vision of school.
- Support the lead teacher in the development and implementation of Montessori standards-aligned curriculum in the classroom; Collaborates with teachers to provide instructional and enrichment assistance to individual students, and large and small groups.
- Teach and enforce school-wide systems, rules, responsibilities and consequences, disciplinary codes, and rewards at all times.
- Assists in the maintenance of students’ records, such as grade records, report cards, diagnostic and achievement test scores, and others.
- Participate in the instruction of the school's integrated PE program, SPARK (training provided).
- Collaborate with other staff members and actively participate in all professional development and learning activities.
- Help students to work cooperatively in an atmosphere of respect, using models of behavior and intervention demonstrated by the teacher.
- Participate in the instruction of the school’s Health and Wellness lunch curriculum, eating with students and implementing lunch-time curriculum (training provided).
- Participate in additional activities including field trips, intensive academic support sessions, and other required programs as needed throughout year (including but not limited to Kidfest Event Planning, Holiday parties/caroling nights).
- Be informed of individual educational plans for students.
- Provides clerical support, including paper grading, student folders, typing and filing office support activities, etc.
- Provides general assistance to students in non-instructional situations.
- May administer minor first aid in the absence of other personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
