This position is an entry level Claims position responsible for processing death benefit claims for individual life and universal life insurance policies. A Claims Analyst I delivers
excellent customer service to our internal and external customers while providing fast, accurate, and efficient data entry, along with department related clerical support. The
daily functions performed will be monitored by a more senior member of the staff.

Primary Responsibilities*

  • Handle new claims reported from inbound and outbound telephone calls in a professional and courteous manner while providing timely and accurate information
  • Verify coverage for insured, confirm identity of beneficiary, and send required documents to obtain proof of claim
  • Prepare claim file, verifying the benefit amount, additional riders, dividends, loans, and interest
  • Order medical records on contestable claim(s), prepare and send file to underwriting for review
  • Keep detailed summary of all communication for the claim
  • Maintain digital claim file, and review claim for fraud indicators and red flags
  • Process claim payment upon receipt of required documents.
  • Responsible for document image functions, including scanning, indexing, photocopying, file routing, and other related duties as needed
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail, returned mail, faxes, emails, and secure uploads within company standards for turn around time

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop knowledge of current and past products, features, and benefits
  • Meet personal/team qualitative and quantitative goals
  • Provide backup for Front Desk, as needed
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED). May require some job related course work
  • Clerical/office environment experience preferred
  • Experience with customer service work: dealing with communication ranging from calm and understanding to escalated, angry, or frustrated callers
  • Basic computer skills. Ability to learn company specific software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Time management skills. Ability to multi-task and learn quickly
  • Must be able to manage fast paced telephone calls and communication and provide accurate and efficient data entry with great attention to detail
  • Must be good-natured and not easily upset; have a cooperative attitude and is pleasant with others on the job
  • Life Insurance work experience preferred
