Great American’s Professional Liability Division offers non-medical service providers protection from claims alleging an act, error or omission by the firm, its staff or contractors working on its behalf. The Division recognizes every industry has its own unique needs and develops customized coverage solutions for specific professional liability exposures.
The Professional Liability Division is looking for a Financial Products Claims Specialist. This individual will work on a variety of claims including Miscellaneous Professional Liability claims and Canadian Professional Liability claims. This position will be fully remote.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Investigates, evaluates and adjusts large sized Miscellaneous Professional Liability and other claims.
- Reviews and evaluates coverage and/or liability.
- Secures necessary information (i.e., reports, bonds, credit limits, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, or other documents) to assist in the investigation of claims.
- Retains and directs approved consultants and outside counsel. Responsible for maintaining cost controls and overseeing the work of outside counsel.
- Determines available avenues of recovery and their cost-effectiveness; coordinates approved recovery effort.
- Establishes and maintains proper loss, salvage and subrogation reserves.
- Prepares periodic claims reports and financial evaluations.
- Affects settlements/reserves within prescribed limits and submits recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.
- Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensures compliance of claims handling pursuant to all state, legal, statutory, and regulatory bodies to comply with all company procedures and requirements.
- As directed, may assist Underwriting, Marketing, Risk Management, and Loss Prevention with projects, including evaluating potential new business.
- May participate in retaining and directing approved consultants and outside counsel. May assist in maintaining cost controls and overseeing the work of outside counsel.
- May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
- Field of Study: Business, Liberal Arts, Finance or a related discipline
- Experience: 6 to 10 years of related experience.
- May possess LLM (Master's of Law) or JD (Juris Doctorate) and current attorney license with 2 to 4 years of post-bar experience.
