Clerk I
Maintains communications systems and telephone service for all sections of San Angelo
State Supported Living Center. Handles a multi-line phone system, placing, answering,
transferring, and logging of all calls, pages and responses and uses two (2) paging
systems. Performs various types of clerical work for various departments of the facility.
Handles multitudes of filing/paperwork. Performs routine duplication work with copy
equipment, collator, and binder. Assists in operating the Vehicle Pool. Responsible for
monitoring weather conditions and immediate response of the Fire Alarm and Emergency
Siren Alert Systems. Handles cell phones, consumer activity monies, and vending
refunds, plus a variety of other duties.


Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.
Maintains all communications for San Angelo State Supported Living Center during their on-duty hours. Responsible for keeping current departmental location information on all active employees and
consumers.
Responsible for keeping accurate records for all log sheets (drills/alarms/repairs/vending refunds/deliveries/injury/restraint calls, credit cards/ meal ticket sales/emergencies/call duties).
Responsible for handling all types of emergencies (fire/weather/medical).
Performs clerical duties as assigned and performs any duties necessary within the Switchboard department. Includes operation of Print Shop equipment.
Schedule vehicles for trips for all departments.
Responsible for following search procedures as outlined in the policy and procedures. Always maintains a working phone number.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations
(COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.


Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Working knowledge of spelling, grammar, automated equipment and office practices and procedures.
Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex instruction.
Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public.
Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Able to prepare and maintain detailed records, files, and reports.
Knowledge of multi-line phone system.
Knowledge of paging/communication systems.

Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited high school or GED
Six (6) months of documented work experience in a clerical or secretarial setting Experience working with a multi-line phone or PBX system.
Basic computer skills with some knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.


Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities. Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
