Program Description
Felton Institute’s Early Psychosis award winning program (re)MIND® (formerly PREP) was originally developed in partnership with the University of California San Francisco (UCSF). Felton’s (re)MIND® is an early psychosis coordinated specialty care model for early detection and treatment of schizophrenia spectrum disorders. (re)MIND® core evidence-based practices include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Strength‐Based Care Management, Multi‐family Group Therapy, Peer Support, Algorithm-Based Medication Management and Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model of supported education and employment. The (re)MIND® model has two additional components, Felton BEAM and BEAM UP, for individuals diagnosed with bipolar or mood disorders with psychosis and for individuals at clinical high risk of developing psychosis, respectively. The (re)MIND model expanded to include an early psychosis aftercare model – (re)MIND® Alumni. Funded through partnerships with county behavioral health departments, the Felton Early Psychosis Division operates outpatient coordinated specialty care for early psychosis programs in San Francisco, Alameda, San Mateo, Monterey, and Marin, and offers excellent training and workforce development.
Position Overview
The Early Psychosis Division (EPD) Clinical and Training Director provides oversight of clinical services, training, and workforce development activities. The Clinical and Training Director works closely with other directors and clinical program managers to ensure that all (re)MIND® early psychosis clinics meet quality assurance standards and consistency with the Felton (re)MIND® early psychosis model. The Clinical and Training Director ensures that all supervisory needs of staff are met, not limited to supervisory requirements for clinical licenses (Board of Behavioral Sciences - BBS, Board of Psychology - BOP, National Association of Social Workers - NASW), professional certifications, internships, and other training programs, including providing direct supervision hours as required. Local travel between agency sites is expected. This position reports directly to the Early Psychosis Division Director.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Responsible for the development and implementation of clinical policy and procedures according with Early Psychosis Division care standards, and in collaboration with Division director, operations director, clinical program managers, and Felton’s quality management department
- Initiate, own, coordinate, and be accountable for special projects that involve clinical practice, workforce development, care standards, and quality assurance (QA)
- Provide clinical leadership to the interdisciplinary teams, including providing guidance in complex clinical cases, clinical issues related to risk, legal, and limitations of early psychosis services
- Coordinate closely with clinical program managers to ensure clinical coverage and staff availability at all sites and be prepared to step in for clinical program managers and manage early psychosis clinics during planned absences or transitions
- Provide direct oversight of referral and intake systems, monitoring referrals, intakes, and caseloads across sites and collaborate directly with clinical program managers to resolve issues regarding intake flow, caseloads, and referrals
- Maintain policy manuals, best practices, and FAQs for the multidisciplinary team (clinical, psychosocial rehabilitation, administrative, and medical teams)
- Lead regular chart review processes at all sites to ensure compliance with documentation requirements for all funding streams, coordinate responses to audits and inspections, and provide regular status report to the Division Director
- In collaboration with the Operations Director, monitor clinical performance across sites, QA compliance, fidelity measures, research protocols, strategic plans and develop corrective plans as needed
- As assigned by the Division Director and/or in collaboration with other directors, provide supervision to clinical program managers and input on performance reviews
- Provide individual and/or group supervision to psychological associates, post-doctoral interns and other program staff accruing clinical experience and hours for professional licensure where needed
- Develop and lead monthly clinical rounds for early psychosis coordinated specialty care excellence and workforce development
- Develop and implement Early Psychosis Division training in collaboration with EPD leadership, expert consultants, and internal trainers, develop training materials, participate in the delivery of training, and ensure that all training projects meet deadlines
- Actively engage in Felton early psychosis outreach campaign and liaison with other Felton departments regarding media campaign, outreach materials, and facilitate community involvement and/or advocacy.
- Utilize operational knowledge of Felton early psychosis programs to identify and recommend strategic initiatives for program expansion as well as improve data collection methods
- Contribute to all relevant administrative, clinical, and operational meetings (early psychosis leadership meetings, steering committee meetings, research related meetings, and other assigned meetings and represent Felton early psychosis programs in stakeholder, county, and other meetings, as assigned
- Attend and participate in all assigned trainings for professional, program, and agency development
- Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (or higher) in Social Sciences, Psychology, Counseling Psychology or related field AND current California State Licensure AND meets requirement to provide clinical supervision to BBS and/or BOP associates (post-licensure years of experience and/or required coursework)
- Five years of supervisory experience in community mental health programs OR three years of supervisory experience in early psychosis coordinated specialty care program
- Five years of experience providing mental health services to youth or young adults with serious mental health challenges OR two years of direct service experience in early psychosis program
- Personal or family experience of overcoming mental health challenges highly desirable
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Forms, etc.), cloud-based solutions (Box, Dropbox, Google Docs, Survey Monkey, etc.), and video conference platforms (MS Teams, Zoom)
- Valid California Drivers’ License with a clean driving record (for insurance purposes).
Competencies
- Expertise in semi structured assessments and treatment of behavioral health disorders. Experience in early psychosis treatment a plus.
- Knowledge of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and treatment of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorder preferred. Experience with CBT for Psychosis (CBTp) a plus.
- Experience in clinical program management and leading interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience implementing evidence-based practices with fidelity monitoring.
- Customer service perspective and strength-based approach to management.
- Ability to manage a department budget.
- Knowledge of respective counties behavioral health department and community resources.
- Knowledge of County, State and Federal requirements for documentation and reporting, including MediCal/MediCare standards, CPT codes, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others and behave ethically and professionally.
- Good negotiation, problem-solving, and political savvy skills.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Adaptable, open to change, and able to tolerate ambiguity.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.

- Bilingual/Bicultural and fluent in Spanish or Asian languages preferred.
