GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Clinical Assistant is a member of the staff who coordinates aspects of patient care by managing communication and clerical tasks essential to the functioning of the unit. In addition to communication and clerical tasks, she/he monitors and stocks supplies. The Clinical Assistant also provides patient care and related functions as delegated by and under the direction of a registered nurse.
UNIT DESCRIPTION:
IICU cares for a variety of patient populations and acuities. We typically care for patients post ICU stay from one of our 4 ICUS at Troy, and patients requiring more care than a Progressive Care Level can provide. You will experience patients who have tracheostomies, Strokes, CHF, ETOH withdrawal, Pneumonia, BiPAP, stable trach to vent patients, titratable IV drips, Chest Tubes, and many more medical and surgical disease processes.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education / Training:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Work Experience:
- Completion of nursing assistant program and/or one year of nursing assistant experience preferred.
Certification, Licensure, Registration:
- AHA BLS Healthcare Provider required within 6 months of employment.
- Nursing Assistant certification preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Provide patient care assignments as delegated by and under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Clerical/manages supplies/equipment in designated care areas.
- Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and hospital policy. Documents in electronic medical record.
- Acts as a receptionist and organizes daily work assignment based on unit priorities

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Physical Effort:
- Extensive bending and lifting. Must be able to transfer patients from bed, wheelchair, etc.
- Position requires incumbent to constantly walk, stand and occasionally sit for long periods of time.
- Frequent bending such as for caring for patients in bed.
- Work Environment:
- Outpatient clinic and inpatient hospital settings.
- Frequently exposed to blood, body tissue and fluids.
- Position requires incumbent to be able to hear normal sound with some background noise as in phones, intercoms, alarms, etc.
- Potential risk of an exposure to hazardous medications or waste materials of hazardous medications.
